He knows where the net is in non-League, which is massively different.

Yeah, that's true enough but has Hoover said McCallum is only at National League level .

Re: Paul Mccallum
Are people seriously suggesting that we should sign a bloke who is 30 years old and has never played higher than league 2 just because he’s had a decent few months in the least competitive conference season for a good few years?

Not just that we should sign him, that we should pay a fee to secure his services as he's still under contract. The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:41 am Are people seriously suggesting that we should sign a bloke who is 30 years old and has never played higher than league 2 just because he’s had a decent few months in the least competitive conference season for a good few years?

I never said that I would want at the club just that he would command a fee we get all our players from Bernardo’s not Harrods.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:57 amNot just that we should sign him, that we should pay a fee to secure his services as he's still under contract. The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:41 am Are people seriously suggesting that we should sign a bloke who is 30 years old and has never played higher than league 2 just because he’s had a decent few months in the least competitive conference season for a good few years?

Re: Paul Mccallum
One of the things about supporting a lower league club is your way less likely to watch other teams at your level play or even other leagues in which you might be signing players from (La Liga, Serie A etc), so your reference points for 'we should sign x' are going to be really limited. Means we always end up talking about bringing back either ex players or former premiership/championship stalwarts who would obviously never sign for us. No-one on here has had a clue about what the vast majority of our signings are actually like. The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:41 am Are people seriously suggesting that we should sign a bloke who is 30 years old and has never played higher than league 2 just because he’s had a decent few months in the least competitive conference season for a good few years?
The endless Bonne chat in the summer showed how stupid this debate is, he's doing nothing at Gillingham..

Re: Paul Mccallum
Not good enough for League One but his career is odd, lots of goals in the conference but never stepped back up and all the teams he has been at have been professional sides in the non-league

Not to sure that we will sign any forwards but if by chance we did it will only probably be a loan. If there’s no money available I just wonder what Wellens thoughts might be? He’s intimated in his interviews that he needs players

And what level would you put Drinan and Pigott?RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:09 amYeah, that's true enough but has Hoover said McCallum is only at National League level .
I think they would struggle for goals even in the National League.

Re: Paul Mccallum
In my opinion we'll definitely bring in two players , a winger and a striker . I'm fully expecting the striker to be Kelman who I think Richie wanted to sign in the Summer . Kelman is on the bench at Rangers and is hardly getting a look in . I have no idea who the winger might be .Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 10:37 am Not to sure that we will sign any forwards but if by chance we did it will only probably be a loan. Re: Paul Mccallum
Can’t speak for the winger but bringing in Kelman isn’t the answer imo,to me he’s a Drinan mark 2. Didn’t bang in the goals for us last season and we have moved up since then. Don’t think he would improve us what so ever. If he’s not even used off the bench at Rangers??RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 10:43 amIn my opinion we'll definitely bring in two players , a winger and a striker . Not suggesting we sign them but Will Evan’s of Newport and Ali Al-Hamadi of Wimbledon might be worth a look at.

Re: Paul Mccallum
Seems to be some affection for him on here. The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 9:41 am Are people seriously suggesting that we should sign a bloke who is 30 years old and has never played higher than league 2 just because he’s had a decent few months in the least competitive conference season for a good few years?
He is what he is, imo. A decent Conference/Conference South forward who has the odd run of being prolific.
From my recollection, the term languid was invented for him, though he nutted a few in for us granted.
He was good indeed when we played Eastleigh that time. However that struck me as his magnum opus. He really had the bit between his teeth/a point to prove that night.
I didn't see a lot of that from him in an O's shirt.
I've little doubt he is Not on the club's radar, and particularly Wellens'- he is a player of limited work-rate for sure.

The question is we haven’t got much money left in our budget for new signings. So who can we get?essexfootball wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 12:44 pm If Kelman is the answer then I don't know what the question is...

Re: Paul Mccallum
Would take McCallum over Kelman any day. Not necessarily saying McCallum is better but he's more in line with what we need. Kelman is the some sort of player as Forde, who doesn't get into the game with our style of play.essexfootball wrote: ↑Tue Dec 12, 2023 12:44 pm If Kelman is the answer then I don't know what the question is...
McCallum always struck me has having some attitude issues, which might explain why his goalscoring record hasn't got him bigger moves.

Re: Paul Mccallum
Whoever we get it would be useful if he was decent in the air. Anyone remember when we last scored a headed goal ??
McCallum was decent in the air IIRC but I think League One defenders would be too good for him
