That is a very generous interpretation and if he chooses to take that get out then fair enough, I'll apologise.

I quite understandably interpreted him as talking about the people of Palestine who are being murdered by Israel in revenge attacks for the actions of Hamas, those people being the ones he has no sympathy for.

I look forward to confirmation either way...

My opinion is that Israel will do what they have to do to get rid of Hamas and I'm fine with that. I'm satisfied that they try to minimalise civilian casualties. Most events on the other side of the world I couldnt give a toss about, I didnt realise sympathy (for anyone) was now mandatory.

It's not about having sympathy (or maybe Conkles disagrees), but the assignment of blame to a whole people for the actions of a military organisation. I do not know if that was your intention, but it was possible to interpret your comment in that way. It's a form of "othering".

Are Palestinians responsible for Hamas?
Are the British responsible for Brexit/Tories etc?
Are Americans responsible for Trump?

I dont know the answer.

Read that and saw reports elsewhere. Unless I'm missing something (and happy to be corrected if I have), there's no suggestion that Israel has used White Phosphorous on civilians.

The suggestion is that Hamas fighters were targeted and injured, but not civilians. Obviously, that may be incorrect and evidence to the contrary may emerge in due course. Sure, I guess you can define Hamas as "the Palestinian people" but under international law they are legitimate targets for the use of this weapon.

It's not banned under international law and is not directly prohibited by international humanitarian law. But its use is supposed to be tightly regulated and I'd imagine that most states using it would be smart enough to ensure they can evidence compliance.

I saw an interview with a surgeon in Gaza, a few weeks ago, in which he said, he has experience in people with white phosphorus burns, and what he was seeing was definitely white phosphorus burns.
Linking that in here will be difficult.
I shall try to find this, and if I do I shall link it.
