Wellens tried to change it, but the raw materials he's working with ar'nt good enough.
Abysmal
I totally agree . Every time we go a goal down I think we're as good as beaten . Our defence only needs to make one mistake and we're in trouble .

What’s happening in January?
We will obviously be making signings, we look on our arse atm. I know the board have talked about having a set budget but they will not want to risk a relegation and they will find some funds for a new forward player at least.
I can’t recall the last January where we actually signed players who made a difference
Think Sadlier and Turns were pretty important last January.

Of our next 9 games, only two of them are against sides who are below us in the table. We have to play Bolton twice, Portsmouth, Derby and Blackpool in that run. I just can't see where our goals are coming from at all and I fear that we are going to end up in a big relegation scrap.

Well that's right, Wellens, seems to be immune from any criticism on this board. ' We just need a striker' has been the cry for a long time now and the problem will be solved. Nonsense. As Joe said, it runs a lot deeper than that,. Of course it does. This acute inability we have of sticking the ball in the back of the net is as much the responsibility of the manager as it is the players.

Proper striker needed that get double figures, it’s not rocket science. The board need to get in the real world and stop being cheapskates, if they are not capable bring in people with the finances that are.

We have to be careful because of the FFP ruling . Look at what's just happened to Everton . Saying that , of course a striker like that would be desirable but is it doable . I'm not sure .

These 'double figures' strikers you talk about. Is there a guarantee that if they don't reach that target we will get reimbursed the transfer fee ?

Football isn’t as simple as ‘we’re not scoring goals, let’s get a new striker’.

The issue as Richie said is we don’t have enough experience out on the pitch in how to manage and win games.

I called out our central spine of Happe, Turns, El Miz and Brown as being too ‘nice’ in the week, it’s effectively the same thing.

7 of the players on the pitch today won the league last year, how can they not have enough experience to manage and win games?

Then the five players who came on two won the league last year, Piggott is an experienced senior pro, Gailbraith has played plenty of football and Ayegi is 26, it's a complete cop out by Wellens

Brynn - 23, 1 full season with Swindon last year.
Turns - 21, half a season with us last year.
Cooper - 23, 60 league games ever.
El Miz - 23, 1 full season with us last year.
Brown - 22, this is his breakout season.
Sanders - 24, 45 league games ever.
Ruel - 23, had 3 full(ish) seasons of league football.
Shackford - 19, no prior experience.

Hunt (28), James (27) and Theo (25) are the only ones anywhere near being considered as senior pros, and of those Theo is the only wily one.

We are clearly massively inexperienced, especially through the spine of the team where you need a little bit of nous.

No way is Theo only 25, just not having it. If he was African people would be calling for an enquiry.

Sorry to burst your bubble there are 11 teams with a lower average age...

Richie picks the team, there is more than enough experience in that squad, most of them just won the league

He’s also conveniently (and hilariously) missed out the fact that Pratley & Moncur alone have 800+ league games between them. Add in the 150+ of Dan Agyei and the numbers start stacking up

So we have Wellens complaining about lack of experience and then leaves 3 blokes with a total of almost 1,000 league games under their belts on the bench. (Ok, Agyei is just coming into the side after length injury so he gets a pass for that one.)

The average age of the team that started today, as listed out above, is 23.

Not sure what you're referencing, but I refuse to accept there are 11 clubs putting out younger starting teams than that.

23 is a really young average age, regardless of anyone else. But it's not just the age, it's the amount of league games the player has played, and also the level at which those games have been played. And we're lacking in all those areas. It's also the positions - our only experience is with the wide players, our core, our spine, is ridiculously inexperienced.

If you refuse to accept that lack of experience is the fundamental flaw with our current starting XI and something we need to put right in January, then fair enough, I can't help you with that.

I've not conveniently missed anyone out, I've just stated the ages of the starting XI today.

Richie obviously thought that was a problem and brought on the vastly experienced Prats and Moncs at half time. The problem with both those experienced players is they're on their last legs and arguably shouldn't be playing at L1 level anymore, which is why younger, inexperienced kids are being picked ahead of them.

When put in that list it looks pretty obvious that going for a young loan keeper and no proven L1 midfielder wasn't the brightest idea

To be fair, the expectation was that Beckles would be playing ahead of him. Sadly that hasn't worked out.

Same with midfield, we always knew Pratley would only be a bit part but more was expected from Moncs.

Omars Injured.
Him & Cooper were brilliant together.

Omar being out means Happ came back in &
Dan's Head seems to be somewhere else & only
about avoiding Injury

Interesting someone else is thinking this. What with RW's comment the other week about wanting more from Happe then pulling out late to avoid a cold hard pitch makes you wonder.
