I think the Inheritance Tax cut will come in the next and final budget before an election. If Labour get in , that will be a tough reversal.

A tax that only affects the richest 4% of estates, and the British public are so easily led into thinking that cutting it is a great act of fairness. I'm quite sure you're correct, and they'll bloody lap it up. We really get the government we deserve.

For someone who knows nothing about Economics. Can someone explain why the government having been saying they can’t give above inflation wage increases as this drives inflation but they can cut NI and give people more money in their pockets?

Having held the personal allowance they are taking £214 away from everybody whose income is above £13600 next year. Added to the £254 they had last year(current).

So if you are on average income you receive around £450 from the NI. However inflation has added £468 over the last 2 years, so we the workers are still £18 worse off.

Hope that explains why he has not given anything away.

Giving people rises above inflation just increases debt as a % of gdp and the interest paid. As we run on a budget deficit.

Why? - they only pay IHT on the couple of hundred. The £500K (double that if they're the last surviving spouse - so that's a cool million) is still tax free.
IHT is the fairest tax going - those leaving the estate don't need it any more, and those receiving it didn't "earn" it. (and it's debateable whether the estate was "earned" - or just a result of asset values increasing - in most cases anyway)

See what you mean. I am not up to date with the allowances and have never been given FA . Obviously some do very well out of reductions in I T rates. The extremely wealthy probably put their assets in trusts anyhow.

Blair inherited a decent hand from Ken Clarke. Starmer’s spending plans are going to require funding and the tax burden is already at its highest since WW2. Taxing private schools and non doms ain’t going to cover it.

Yep. Just need to work out how we enforce it if they're based on overseas jurisdictions, and without spooking the global capital markets to which we are now so exposed (they did bring down the previous PM and Chancellor, after all). But other than that, I'm all for it.

1) The tax is on the property here - not the entity overseas. It's applied as a debt in the land register if it's not paid. In 10 years (at 10% pa) the
country gets to seize the property for the common wealth.
2) These "capital markets" of which you speak seem to be capricious Gods we've chosen for ourselves. We should just tell them to f*** off.
