The headline might grab the attention, but the story is mostly about the plight and requests of the families of hostages who are - quite rightly and understandably - desperate for anything to be done that would bring home their loved ones. This includes asking those in power in Israel and elsewhere to negotiate for their release with Hamas. One can only imagine the horrors they are going through.

Of course, the best outcome would be unconditional release of all hostages, but that's not going to happen.

I think there's been far worse headlines than this over the past couple of weeks to take issue with.

The organisational structure of Hamas is purposely designed to avoid typical structural forms of hierarchy. Similar to how ISIS was structured.

This gives it resilience to targeted attacks and assassinations of leaders, but a consequence of this is that it is disjointed and with limited central command. This can make any attempt to negotiation very difficult.

That is correct, the inference being that a single Israeli is worth a thousand Palestinians, but they made a rod for their own back, because Hamas know they will be willing to do deals now

Just going off at a tangent, in the UN, twice last week, USA ( & UK) vetoed a vote on implementing a ceasefire in Gaza. Why do you think the US didnt want a ceasefire then?
