Well, you've left yourself plenty of room to be 'right' - by the sounds of it, anything short of winning the next tournament will prove you 'right'.
2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship
2018 World Cup
2018–19 UEFA Nations League
UEFA Euro 2020
2022 World Cup
So if we don't win the next tournament when would you consider it might be a good idea to try someone different.

Did you expect us to win any of those?
Unless you’re suggesting to raise Alf Ramsay from the dead I’m not sure who is going to have a better record than Southgate.
It’s actually a measure of Southgate’s success that people somehow think we should be winning major tournaments.

Not all of them, but one out of 5 would have been good, why do you think we shouldn't win one ocassionally ?

Because other countries have better players and the fact we haven’t won anything for almost 60 years.
It baffles me - it’s like orient fans expecting to win an fa cup every so often and then slagging off a manager who only gets us to the quarter finals

If you are seriously comparing England's chances of winning the last home Euro's with top quality Premiership players, to Orient winning the FA Cup, it's not worth debating further. As well as we played winning against Italy today, unfortunately Southgate failed to do so two years ago from a winning position when it really mattered. Feel free to think the players are crap and the manager is capable, personally I just happen to think its the other way around.

Actually Southgate got Middlesbrough relegated I do believe. Look I’m like most England supporters and want us to do well every game but I honestly feel with him in charge we will win nothing, and that would be a travesty imo
But weve only ever won one tournament & that was at home. Only Venbles got to a final & that team was better than the current one. Name an English manager who would do better than Southgate. It's not Just down to a manager.
Got to correct you on that Joe we only got to the semi final, something I really blame Southgate for. Not for missing a penalty but in our euro final putting two young kids on a minute before the end and making them take penalties, unforgivable in my book. He could have ruined there careers when he knew how it affected him throughout his playing career. Now tell me honestly would you have liked to have been in there shoes.
shows how good Southgate is. 2 S.F &a Final. Saka seems to really be struggling, dont remember whe missed the others.

We won’t with Southgate in charge, no tactical knowledge, Phillips was lucky to stay on the pitch imo should have been substituted, he was well off the pace and admitted so after the game. I stand by what I’ve said

Agree about Phillips...he is quite adept at fouling people though, I give him that.
So you're clear that you want Southgate gone, but can't even come up with one viable replacement for him?
That is rather empty logic and that's an understatement.
Eddie Howe, or the Arsenal managerWould suit, there you go credible enough for you
Has stated Hedy how as an English manager if it’s a foreign manager, Mikel Arteta, Roberto Mancini would be my choice, we need a tactical manager not a media expert
To those who point out the successes of Southgate, we need to point out that England have been incredibly fortunate in the qualifying groups that England have been placed in. That said, I hope we do manage to win something in the future.
Bring fortunate in groups in the past has not stopped England from making a balls of it.
Doing the basics well and navigating qualifying and group stages without drama is something that didn’t happen too often pre-Southgate.
I agree that he’s tactically limited and I think going after this tournament is about right, but it really can’t be underestimated that he completely changed the feel of the entire England set-up, and when he goes, his successor would do well to keep continuity with the good stuff Southgate did.
(The issue with the faked bafflement over Henderson is disappointing precisely because Southgate is intelligent enough to be able to navigate it better)

It was fortunate there were so few nations involved in 66. Swings & Roundabouts.

Yet, neither of those managers are available. Howe I think would be unlikely to leave his "project" at Newcastle before it's even got going, and I can't see Arteta leaving to part-time manage what is a foreign country to him.
So again, as you are so down on Southgate, despite him having the second best record of any England manager ever, who is it you have in mind who is going to win us the World Cup and/or Euros?
Or, are you just whining because that's your modus operandi in life...

Each and every manager I put forward you will say that there unavailable so I’m in a no win situation with your views on the subject. Every manager is available at the right price and contract it’s weather they choose to accept or not. What I definitely do know is that we need a tactical manager perhaps a little like Venables or Hoddle who are obviously to old now. An international manager can’t buy players so have to make the best of what is available and for me Southgate is sadly lacking in the tactical department

We're in a qualifying group with the current European champions and are strolling to the tournament?
Incredible how short people's memories are, we got dumped out of the tournament before Southgate joined by a country with a population of a large London borough.

If there were Alf would have beaten them I no Southgate wouldn’t

There only the current Euro champions because Southgate single handily gave them the trophy. Now remind me how many trophies has Southgate actually won???? He’s had more than enough chances. Sure we can qualify in the group stages against eel pie Island, the Isle of Wight and San Marino, but when it comes to the crunch. So how many has he won please enlighten me

Fair points there fella, and thanks.
Not Everything comes down to money though - anyone who would be wanted for the job, is likely a multi-millionaire anyway..
I agree that (despite his many qualities, which are evident by his record) he has stuff to learn in the tactical realm.
However, we've just beaten Italy home and away so maybe that area is improving too.
As an aside, I can actually see the FA promoting from within, and giving it to Lee Carsley due to his own record with the under 21s'.
If you were to go back in time and tell my 2016-self that Gareth Southgate was to be the next England manager and what the following tournament result would be, I would simply not have believed you.
Sure, he has his limitations, but his tenure has surpassed all of my expectations, which were informed by my experience of watching England since the 1986 World Cup*.
*Just to clarify, I have an uncanny ability to recall such memories from when I was just one year old.

No problem Scuba respect your views as well as I do most others on here. Would disagree with the money side of things now days. Vigs for example. Not like the old days when playing was a priority however you can’t blame them for wanting to get financially secure . Have a nice day pal

Well I think if your to ask Brazil Argentina, Germany, France if they would settle for coming 2nd 3rd 4th I just wonder if they would settle for that? The problem with this country in general is we are just happy to participate, winning becomes a dirty word and that has to change imo
