To be honest, I wouldn’t put that passed the EFL .ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 1:28 pm I cant believe even the stupid EFA would give the club a points deduction for invading the pitch.
Very sad incident, and can only give best wishes to this mans family.

Re: Fan in East Stand dies
Sincere condolences to family, friends and all who witnessed this tragedy last night. I too hope that lessons will be learned but in my career I sadly had to be part of the response to several major incidents. The first thing you learn when doing so is that, no matter how good/thought out/well researched and rehearsed your plans and instructions are, large parts of them go straight out of the window. Even the trained paramedics will be feeling it today. There is an inevitability that untrained and ill prepared people are party to and often form part of any such response. Were the referee, linesman, Richie, anyone else involved to encounter anything similar again (having been through last night and the often months of subsequent soul searching that comes as a consequence) would they react in the same way again? I sincerely doubt it. In anticipation of responses about “well they should be better prepared” those comments will almost inevitably come from people who are likely to have no practical experience in this field.

Re: STILL NO NEWS
Theo was at that side of the pitch and realised the gravity of the situation and he was trying to communicate that to the assistant referee.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 11:45 amDoesn't this assume he immediately realised the gravity of the situation? Which he wouldn't have. And that his response had any bearing on what sadly happened. Which we have no evidence for.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 11:36 amI know what I would have done - I would have ignored any stupid rules, used common sense and stopped the game instantly to give the person every change of survival. That is utter hyperbole and almost disgusting to draw comparisons with other bits through history, that's totally not on
It's an ultra sad situation and hope the guy is alive but to draw parallels between one guy in a stadium to other big time evens through history is a joke
Also like everyone myself included it is easy to sit here and say we'd do, x, y and z but when it actually comes to it, how will you/I/Anyone actually react is totally different
What needs to happen from this is the club, league, everything need to sit down and look at how they can improve going forward, the big problem with all these incidents is it's never known how serious they are, like yesterday was horrific but last sense, fans wanted the game flagged down in the Tommy Johnson but the game went on and it was fine.
Everyone in there heads will always think they will say and do the right thing, when it comes to actuality it's a totally different matter and in a lot of cases there is a no-win scenario
The guy is probably torn up today as it is, as anyone up close to witnessing someone's death would be. Calling him this or that seems incredibly harsh and unnecessary, humans make errors and his wasn't malicious or even significant in the end. Seems like everything that could have been done was done.
I'm guessing at that point, the referee should have been communicated with and the game stopped but it's easier to say in the cold light of day.
Thoughts to the family.

Re: Fan in East Stand dies
Very very sad for this guy, Derek to have died. He was the same age as me ( I survived a heart attack 9 years ago). It happened just 5 rows in front of me.
The "incident" exposed quite serious short comings in my view.
1. Why were the stewards so slow in responding to the aggravation in the crowd. Surely these people are supposed to be watching the crowd. One guy did come over and then went away, presumably to tell someone. Did he not have a radio?
2. Where were the clubs medical staff. They even had to walk around the pitch as I could see. Despite Justin's death where were the defibrillator's.
3. Why the
f*** did the guys running on the pitch not get listened to.
4. Why was Theo not listened to by the linesman. He seemed more intent on pushing Theo away. Derek was literally yards away from the linesman.
The crowd were brilliant in trying to help but sadly to no avail.
I suppose the only consolation to Derek, and hopefully to his family and friends, is that at his death, he was watching his team winning a game. He wasn't alone!!
RIP my friend

Re: Fan in East Stand dies
I hope no one thinks I'm making light of the tragic events last night, because I'm not, but Derek, a diehard Orient supporter died in front of the team he loved and in the ground of the team he loved.
The last thing he saw, was his team.
At some point, his family may find some solace in that thought.
It's an awful tragedy, but there may be a crumb of comfort in that.
As an aside, there's a minutes applause in the 84th min, at Saturday's home game, to remember Derek

I make you right on all of that. Not making light at all. A terrible tragedy but in years to come I think it will give the family comfort. I know it would mine.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:44 pm I hope no one thinks I'm making light of the tragic events last night, because I'm not, but Derek, a diehard Orient supporter died in front of the team he loved and in the ground of the team he loved.

On point 2, defib is only used to reset a rapid heart rate, if the heart stops then only CPR can help.Harlow wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:40 pm Very very sad for this guy, Derek to have died. He was the same age as me ( I survived a heart attack 9 years ago). It happened just 5 rows in front of me.

my wife went to a defibrillator cause last night
its correct you only use the defib to correct the heart rate
and not to restart it only C.P.R should be used.
