Fan in East Stand dies

Still no news from the club on whether the fan survived last night. After an hour or so of CPR I am guessing that very sadly he/she did not

A terrible evening and one that the football authorities need to take a very close look at. The incident was so close to the pitch in the first place and then right on the pitchside. How the referee thought he could play on at that point I have no idea. Complete madness and a total lack of common sense

I dunno, once the game is off and the supporter is out of the ground, I'm not sure it's the club's place to provide updates on their condition. If the family were OK with it, maybe, but they probably have other concerns right now.

It's an ultra sad situation and hope the guy is alive but to draw parallels between one guy in a stadium to other big time evens through history is a joke

Also like everyone myself included it is easy to sit here and say we'd do, x, y and z but when it actually comes to it, how will you/I/Anyone actually react is totally different

What needs to happen from this is the club, league, everything need to sit down and look at how they can improve going forward, the big problem with all these incidents is it's never known how serious they are, like yesterday was horrific but last sense, fans wanted the game flagged down in the Tommy Johnson but the game went on and it was fine.

Everyone in there heads will always think they will say and do the right thing, when it comes to actuality it's a totally different matter and in a lot of cases there is a no-win scenario

And for everyone who witnessed that as well. Seeing someone die is something that never leaves you. Thousands of people last night, including undoubtedly some very young fans, had to see it and I can't imagine how they are feeling. Completely dreadful.

I was in the West Stand - not close like some of our fans and players would have been. But i still I found it very upsetting to witness at that distance.
I would give a massive shout out to all the stewards who went above and beyond last night - never expecting that their minimum wage shift would involve being up close to such a distressing event.

It was a dangerous situation for the stricken supporter and the players. How often have we seen a ball thundered into a stand? How often have we seen players careering into hoardings and get injured. When the trolley was within 3 foot of the playing surface. It was a hazard for the poor person and the players. The ref was stupid not to stop the game.

It was an extremely difficult situation, he's been given clear guidance on what to do in those scenarios and in the space of a few minutes he's having to deal with a chaotic situation in a role where he's getting bolloxed by thousands of fans at the best of times. I don't think he got it right and I lost some sympathy for him when he tried to restart the game whilst the fan was receiving CPR on the side of the pitch, but there's no point in trying to create a villain when really this was a uncontrollable tragedy. Nothing indicates the response by the on pitch individuals made any difference.

Doesn't this assume he immediately realised the gravity of the situation? Which he wouldn't have. And that his response had any bearing on what sadly happened. Which we have no evidence for.

Going by the link emergency services was with him in about four minutes . Everything that could have been done for this poor man was done .

Happened 4 rows in front of me so we saw it all. Very sad. It was chaos from the start. Stewards straight away assumed it was fans causing trouble which if they had listened would have seen it wasn’t.
Lots of Orient fans did their best to help him…..

Someone went out last night to go to a football match and never got home. So sad. Sincere condolences to his family. There must be a minute's silence at this Saturday's match, I am sure.

As to replay/continuation of last night's match, we have to wait on the big-wigs of the EFL

However, it would not surprise me if the EFL have something negative to say about the Os handling of spectators getting onto the pitch during the match. The worst case scenario is a fine. We all know that's possible because the EFL mandarins are so pig-headed at times.
