Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Wait, since when is it news that Russell Brand is a wrongun? Wasn't that always obvious?
Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
It is.
And the full story is going to be properly grim. Have now heard some details which, if true, he’ll be getting jail time.
It’s also looking credible that his entire anti-MSM persona was actually created specifically to grift a fanbase who won’t mind a bit of rapiness, and to have laid the ground work for a “media with an agenda cos I’m too close to the truth” angle.
He’s finished aside from as a grifter.
David Walliams and Matt Lucas are apparently in a bit of trouble too

We knew he was a wrong un - based on what I’ve heard we didn’t know the half of it

This would be the first time they've made me laugh in years if true.

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Matt Lucas was sat next to me a few months back at the Southwark Playhouse. But nothing happened, so he must of been wary of not adding to any alleged scandal.

Imagine editing an episode of little Britain to cut to them being sentenced just after one of their sketches ends

They mock the establishment to further their career, ‘heroes’ to many.
And now they are officially to be Mentioned In Despatches.

Russell Brand. Why should we be surprised. I anticipate that in todays me2 climate he’ll get the book thrown at him. In such allegations one is guilty until one proves themselves innocent or not in court.

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Rapists should have the book thrown at them in all environments. What has todays me2 climate got to do with it?

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Its alarming to see the reaction of some of his disciples and fellow travellers on the so called "Left" rushing to remind everyone about due process and undermining the validity of the Dispatches investigation. With little or no regard for the victims of serious criminal acts.
Truly it is the age of the conspiraloon.

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
I've never understood what the big deal was about Russell Brand, he' a classic example of "The emperor's new clothes"
Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
That was a grim watch.
I was a listener to the radio show in the mid 2000s and it’s not an easy revisit if I’m honest. I remember the atmosphere of bantz and laddishness, and I think I stupidly and conveniently just assumed that the guests, the newsreaders etc were all in on the joke and ok with it. Almost in a “well the BBC wouldn’t allow this if it was actually the atmosphere they’re pretending it is”
But yeah, properly grim. I listen to the Matt Morgan podcast, who has distanced himself from Brand in the last five-six years. I don’t think he covered himself in glory back then at all, and his statement was very lawyery. I don’t think this story is over

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Some great points above (last three especially).
I watched it last night and after two minutes had to ask my adult daughter if she would not mind watching in another room as I was embarrassed what was being said graphically. I offered to go watch elsewhere but she agreed to. I was conscious of all the criticism of the victims and ‘why not complain at time ‘ comments but having found him a very disturbing character years ago, as much as , if not more than Saville , I have no doubt in my mind that even a fraction of what was said by those victims were true, this is truly disturbing and horrifying stuff. Once again, what were these producers and executives doing allowing this bloke on TV when the likes of Benny Hill, Manning, Davidson etc were long banished from the screens? He was like other examples, moved on a upwards. His subsequent treatment of the Sachs’ through with the help of the BBC was a temporary minor hurdle. I hope this matter is investigated as zealously as all the other public figures who have thought they walk on water and given the full weight of the laws. If he is found guilty of crimes I hope he is banged up for a very long time.

Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
Outside of the allegations, which are obviously disturbing. The route he was allowed to take and the enablers around him was unsurprising but still shocking. The bit where people were standing outside hearing a woman screaming and ignoring it were stomach churning. Even the people passing notes to audience members knowing what they were letting them in for.
Didn’t see the point of some of the interviews though. The bbc person and the random comic who’d basically just heard a few things seemed flimsy and pointless

Agree, especially about that random comic. I have never heard of him. If I was asked to guess his job for a Jackpot Prize with a thousand guesses I would not have a chance.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sun Sep 17, 2023 2:59 pm Outside of the allegations, which are obviously disturbing. Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
I guess the fact a guy no-one's ever heard of was the only person who agreed to come out and speak publicly while everyone else in the comedy circuit just makes allusions in their set or shares warnings via secret WhatsApp groups tells its own story.
Re: Dispatches on Saturday night
This. Daniel Sloss is good on this stuff and there’s a few good clips doing the rounds of him talking about his own regrets and shortcomings. He definitely warranted getting heard on that documentary.
It’s actually pretty telling seeing various men who definitely knew who started making jokes the second it was safe to do so.
Also, the guardian really is just gonna style out that they routinely platformed Brand for decades?
