Well in life take nothing for granted or as the old saying goes ''don't count your chickens before they hatch''Orient Punxx wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 1:22 pm Gutted for the directors/owners. I think everyone had this one banked.
Nowadays with all this money flying around, perhaps Alzate has been given advice by his agent that he would be better off financially to let his contract expire and negotiate a new contract next season with what ever club comes along and look at the number of players now chasing the big money by going over to play in Saudi Arabia !

. Would have been worth more to them if they had sold him. Obviously wanted him off the books They have potentially lost 3 to 4 million pounds
It looks extremely unlikely that Brighton will want to re-sign him

I think, especially being as he is young, single, fit and talented, Alzate is looking out for himself and listening to his agent as to how to get the best deal financially for the years ahead. Different all together to less talented and older players who are very pleased to get a job offer from another football club when their current contract comes to an end.

Why should they get a little windfall and break from sipping into their pockets after slagging fans off for not spending money at the club? f*** them

With fan attitudes like that, its easy to appreciate why Bechetti said exactly the same to fans of this club.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 4:18 pmWhy should they get a little windfall and break from sipping into their pockets after slagging fans off for not spending money at the club? f*** them

- if he knows he has no future at Brighton he can get a better sign on bonus as a free agent
- if he thinks there's still a chance to stay at Brighton better to go out on loan then a permanent sale
From Brighton's POV if there's any way to avoid paying Orient a big chunk of money they'll take it. Don't be surprised if there's a random player move between those clubs at some point.
Relying on sell-on fees to justify the academy just seems so naive given the many ways to get around them.

Don’t think that’s fair - an academy has a community aspect that is part of the fabric of a football club.gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:28 pmYup from his POVSid Bishop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:09 pmI agree.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:01 pm

Re: Alzate: £8M transfer
I know people don't like this take because of the whole "family club thing" but personally see no value in that side of it. For what it costs the monetary isn't great and when you can loan the likes of El Miz, Forde, Turns etc. from elsewhere it begs the question if it's viable when Travis is complaining about sustainability.Orient Punxx wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:32 pmDon’t think that’s fair - an academy has a community aspect that is part of the fabric of a football club.gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:28 pmYup from his POVSid Bishop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:09 pm

Not often that Os get a big money pay off from original fees and add on's from young players being transferred as would have been the case if Steven Alzate had of been sold on by Brighton. Well I have no idea as to the balance sheet of the academy as to if it makes a profit or loss for the club, have you any idea other than an educated guess ?

I'm not as angry as BigsyMalone is, about what Nigel Travis said regarding fans spending their money outside the ground, but it wasn't a well chosen thing to say IMO.

Based on Travis and Teague both saying on the AGM Q&A sessions their aim was to get it to break even over a 10-year period it's loss-makingSid Bishop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:53 pmWell I have no idea as to the balance sheet of the academy as to if it makes a profit or loss for the club, have you any idea other than an educated guess ?

I had the pleasure of dealing with Ovenden family in a business context. Obviously an absolute pleasure. It’s fuxxxxn hard work running/funding a footy club. I for one would cut a lot of slack in any context.

Re: Alzate: £8M transfer
As I’ve posted elsewhere, the club have now reduced the cost of hospitality in the restaurant with a “3 for 2 offer” for the next three home games. I think they made a mistake putting the price up as they did and basically priced many fans out and encouraged them to spend their money on pre-match food elsewhere.ComeOnYouOs wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 6:02 pm I'm not as angry as BigsyMalone is, about what Nigel Travis said regarding fans spending their money outside the ground, but it wasn't a well chosen thing to say IMO.

Re: Alzate: £8M transfer
From Brighton's point of view better to get £4m than worrying about paying 20% to us. Random moves as you allude can not happen now. THe FA look at all fees to check on stuff like this Brighton lost more money on this deal than usgshaw wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 5:28 pmYup from his POVSid Bishop wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:09 pmI agree.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 2:01 pm
