Richie Wellens Interview post Stevenage

Post by Bergen »

RW is very honest.
Thommo is out for 3 months.
Sweeney is concussed, but could be back next Saturday.
Drinan will be back in 3-4 weeks time :P

He nails it in the first thirty seconds, why not change it at half-time or very soon then, played the whole system for the whole game when it wasn't working

Going back to the thread last week where we discussed whether to change up the personnel to match up Stevenage... looks like RW had the same quandary.

Started the game really well and if Ruel scores it’s a different game - but we concede from 2 set pieces and a wonder goal. On the whole we didn’t look like we were massively at threat in open play but it doesn’t change the results. We should’ve come out in the second half with a different plan and we didn’t. We got far, far worse. With 10 mins to go we looked like we’d totally given up. Pass completion was diabolical. Subs were poor as well, bar moving Galbraith into midfield. That’s where he’ll make the difference for us. He’s very good and can run a game. Waisted at right back and got overrun there.

Galbraith was the one and only bright spot today, especially when he was even moved into midfield.
Totally wasted at right back, god knows whose idea that was.

Richie got the tactics wrong today. He knows how they play and picked a team to play as we did last week.Evans on the other hand watched how we played last week and had a plan to nullify us playing the way we did last week.Credit to him and his team. His centre half (no 5) organised his team verbally at all times at corners and set play.Archibald was singled out to be the danger and he had 2/3 players surrounding him all afternoon. Turns had a nightmare last season against them and they singled him out today . He hardly won a header. Hope RW learns from today

Lost count of how many times he lost possession today.

He looks dynamic in midfield and I’m excited to see him in there with el miz but he had a poor afternoon

To be fair the boarders on here who said we should play Beckles instead of Turns because of the aerial bombardment , looks like they were proven right .

Stevenage don't look to hurt you in open play. They go long early, their forwards chase everything, looking to win corners and throw ins from deep positions.

They must have had 4 or 5 corners in the first 25 minutes.

Yeah, although he was poor when he came on as well.

Yeah, although he was poor when he came on as well.
Other than winning every single header against Reid in open play and controlling Sweeney at set pieces, I make you right.

I make that, a poor afternoon first half but a very good afternoon second half.
