Re: Ratings
Great performance today, hard to single anyone out really but I think we’ve found a real player in Galbraith, very skilful and composed. Theo is finally concentrating on his game and not getting too involved in petty squabbles with the opposition, and was so unlucky with the drive that hit the bar in the 1st half.
Cambridge were poor but then we didn’t let them play and totally dominated them.
Stevenage next week may be a different proposition.

Agreed on Galbraith. He looks like, as I believe the kids say, a baller. Thought he might be in for a hard arvo after his harsh early booking but he was brilliant afterwards.

He did, and I’m not questioning that. However, you can’t deny that a huge part of being a goalkeeper is having the confidence and self-assurance to command the defence in the way that Brynn can, and that can only come from the sort of experience that Howes just doesn’t have yet. Brynn was in total command of his patch today and that was a massive part in the pretty much spot-on performance today.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 7:13 pm I also don't understand the dig at Howes . Today was one of those very rare days where no player got less than an 8. So they all get 8 except....
Turns - 9 - handled their big man really well
Galbraith - 9 - master stroke to put him at full back.
El Miz - 9 - we will talk about this man for years to come
Special mention to Jordan Brown - 9 - took the crown off Pratley and wore it with pride. The midfield bossed this game.
Wellens - 10 - made the big calls and got them right. The bench must have had 150 games from last season sitting on it - and based on that performance they will be sitting there next weeks too.

Re: Ratings
It was blatantly obvious that the defence played with more confidence today than the previous few games and this was almost certainly due to Brynn being back in the side. It’s because he’s the kind of GK who makes you confident due to his ability to command his area.Stowaway wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 7:59 pmHe did, and I’m not questioning that. I was merely praising Brynn for a triumphant return, even more impressive when you consider he’s still new to the club and has been injured.
I have no idea why some taken my praise for our no.1 gk and started to attack me for being positive about him. It’s very strange. I guess they would rather spend this evening attacking me than celebrating Orients great win and praising those who were actually on the pitch. Sad really.

Really pleased to see Brynn back. He commands the box well and you can rely on him to pluck crosses out of the air. He made a good save down to his low right towards the end of the game. Reassuring to have a proper GK between the sticks again.

Referring to the guy by his name by rather than ‘Howlers’ might be a good start. It makes you sound like a school bully.

Excellent summing up .Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sat Aug 26, 2023 6:39 pm Won’t do all the ratings as everyone was 7 and above but the following players deserve a mention:
Theo - had my doubts over him stepping up but he’s been on one so far. Must run more than any player on the pitch and his crossing, pressing and movement are outstanding. Could be our key player this season. Even did it on the right today.
James - infuriating sometimes but today he looked like a different player. Aggressive and alert - the tackle he made last ditch was immense and the ball to theo for his goal was outstanding.
Brown - not a stand out performance Particularly but he’s such a quiet player who does his job really well. The amount he cleaned up and was then the pivot for us moving the ball out of defence was numerous
Richie - special mention for A - giving the team the confidence they played with today which is no mean feat after no wins in 5. And B - for making the big selection calls. They were all spot on and not easy ones.

I think that’s a good point. We played really well but we are not the biggest. Happe really the only tall player we have. We need to make sure we have the ball and keep a high line keeping the corners and free kicks to a minimum. Nothing to fear though if we can put another performance in like that.

I find it strange how my praise for a strong performance by the defence yesterday has lead to some boarders ranting and raving at me about somebody I didn’t even mention.

James - the tackle you mention, after doing the hard work, he got on the ball, lost it, then got booked for pulling their player down. But yes, he did play well.
Brown - the best thing about Brown taking the 4 role, and doing it so well, is it allows Idris to get further up the field.
Richie - totally agreed. Thought it looked a youthful, inexperienced starting 11 but he absolutely nailed it.

Re: Ratings
There was a moment in the game, less than 15 minutes old that illustrated the courage Wellens has asked them to play with. Turns had a man closing him down but not fast and brown was 7-8 metres away with a man at his back. Brown points to an open space he wants it played to horizaontally to himself. Turns delivers on point and Brown just takes a touch before knocking the ball wide.
We built on that type of play and it was witnessed many times yesterday - along with the energy that comes with enjoying your football. Their manager said after the game, what I saw. Cambridge were ready to go home with 30 minutes left.
We all saw promotion last season, but I'm not sure we saw a better team performance than yesterday.

Re: Ratings
There is something Gazza like about the chest out, running style and physicality Theo displays on the pitch. He has very similar running style to Gazza. Not saying he is as good as Gazza and it's a different position but watch next time he runs and closes down players. He is so confident with the ball he often won't look at it and face and look at his opponent instead. Theo is quickly becoming a legend at Orient and is improving every year.
Re: Ratings
Agree with all the praise for official MOTM Galbraith but a bit disappointed to see the other man with two first names Jordan Graham not get a shout out.
Last season, I enjoyed the subtlety of Sadlier but he could be lightweight and a bit of a luxury. I thought Graham was superb in that role taking on defenders, playing crisp one-two passes and looking like he’d been with the squad for months rather than just a couple of weeks.
And for those who say he’s one-footed – true he favours his left but the volley that set up Shaq’s goal was a beauty with his right foot followed up by the left foot back across the box that led to the goal. I thought he was superb as were all of the players yesterday – not often they all play well at the same time. Really looking forward to Stevenage

I think we have found a ‘ Real Player ‘ in Galbraith, great business by Lingy or whoever.
Incidentally ‘ Nessy’ , how did you find the offering in the restaurant, is it worth the big price hike ??
