Re: ATTACK IN E.10
BBC News, Police officer stabbed in 'frenzied' machete attack.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-49273979
Part of this news report reads as following.........'A police officer was stabbed in a "frenzied" machete attack as he tried to stop a van in east London.
The PC - described by colleagues as "amazing" - managed to Taser his attacker while being stabbed in the head and body.
He is in hospital with multiple injuries but the Met say he will recover. A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene in Leyton on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. Det Ch Supt Richard Tucker described the attack, which happened shortly after midnight, as "frenzied, unprovoked and shocking". 'Violent struggle' The uniformed officers suspected the van was being driven without insurance when they tried to stop it at the junction between Coopers Lane and Leyton High Road. When they spoke to the driver he became "quite aggressive" and returned to his van before "a violent struggle", Det Ch Supt Tucker said. The injured PC is a patrol officer who has been with the force for about 10 years. Det Ch Supt Tucker said: "He told me he was OK but that's the type of character he is."'

Serious crime has always happened in Leyton (including knife and gun crime) maybe in days gone by it hasn’t being publicised as freely as it can be these days
I’m not condoning the idiots who get involved in this sort of crime and I wish the police officer a speedy recovery but this is not a new kind of crime in Leyton
I’ve spent the majority of my life in and around Leyton and personally I’ve never felt afraid to go out etc
Utter and total rubbish.

Not sure why I'm bothering with anyone who still thinks 'IMMODERATOR' is a thing but why on Earth you think I have egg on my face is beyond me. You're going OFF with your tick box criticisms, perhaps you can explain why you think there was any slight against the Police contained anywhere? Utterly bizarre.West Side Story wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:28 am Once more our glorious IMMODERATOR has egg on his face. Instead of snide comments with perhaps a hidden meaning, can he perhaps explain to us all what exactly " the bigger picture " is ? Does he see himself as our moral guardian? I read the story on the BBC website before seeing this posting. My feelings were 1. Poor cop badly doing a hard job 2 Brave wounded cop then getting the rogue arrested 3 tw*t who carried out the attack now in much bigger trouble than if he had come quietly 4 Knowing where all this took place, presumed the rogue was in transit and not a local 5 Wondering what the tw*t had to hide.
Now I am wondering what Preposterous Joe was going on about, please explain yourself Joe? Have you an issue with our police?

Guess what there is 2% rise within the last 25 years or so

It's not utterly bizarre at all. In the context of things, your comment was. You made an unnecessary - if not totally predictable - remark about a very serious incident.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 1:30 pmNot sure why I'm bothering with anyone who still thinks 'IMMODERATOR' is a thing but why on Earth you think I have egg on my face is beyond me. Oh diddums, I keep on berating you because I disagree. If you're talking about the late 90's,early 2000's then maybe so. But for me that is just around the corner past. Pre mid 80's, say, there was never street crime and murders in Leyton. Actually there were murders in E 10 before the 1980's.
There was a double murder in Francis Road on (or about) 14th April, 1965.
Louis Simkin was convicted of killing his wife and daughter with a hammer.

Re: ATTACK IN E.10
There was also a murder at the Three Blackbirds - very close to last night's attack. This was either in the late 70's or early 80's.
Sandie Craddock (who was a barmaid at the Blackbirds) stabbed a female colleague to death there.
Her case became quite famous as it broke new ground with the defence of Pre Menstrual Syndrome.
Craddock's offence was reduced to manslaughter as it was successfully argued that whilst suffering from PMS, her responsibility for her actions was diminished.

That was a one off domestic murder,i remember it quite well. This and the Eve Stratford murder is totally different to what we're talking about - Street crime and murder in Leyton . She was followed home by a punter at her club, and she just happened to live in Leyton. Lyndhurst Road, if I remember correctly.Fatbaz wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 3:11 pm@ CCHChief crazy horse wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 2:35 pmOh diddums, I keep on berating you because I disagree. 2 .The murder on grove road where a fella killed his wife went to the grove pub then home & reported his wife was killed.
3. Guy murdered in the car park ( no longer there) opposite the S.W.C on whipps cross road not far from the AA shop ny the green man.
2 bodies found in the thickets up by whipps x hospital
1 near the path from lea bridge rd into whipps
1 near the james lane side.
Both young kids about 14 & 17 if i remeber rightly.

Re: ATTACK IN E.10
UK murder rate is DOUBLE what is was in the late 1800's.
But then so is the population. Given that some murders probably weren't reported or recognised as such means that we're not living in a particular violent time, but the perception is much higher.
Having said that, we did go through a long period in the last century when murder rates were lower. Maybe because of collective awareness of the violence of 2 world wars or because the number of young males was much reduced, who knows.
