Ratings vs Solihull

Post by Orient-Jude »

What a great result! Although it’s not over yet, you’d like to think that we’ve now got one foot in league 2. We battled hard and put everything into the game, and came out with a well earned point, against a team who clearly had no intention of playing football. When they weren’t kicking our players up in the air, they were cheating and punting the ball long. Wasn’t the best game to watch at times, and had some very nervy moments but we got the point, with Fylde helping us out big time. Onto what is bound to be a very nervy Saturday but am confident we can get something out of it.

Brill 6 - A great save in the first half from a free kick, but nearly cost us on a couple occasions, recklessly coming off his line.
Widdowson 7 - Defended well, a won a lot of arial challenges. Came forward with the ball well too.
Coulson 8 MOTM - Some great defensive tackles and clearances and dealt with their thuggish strikers well.
Ekpiteta 7 - Confident, did make any mistakes and played out from the back well.
Happe 7 - A ropey first 20 minutes but after that was excellent. Assured, and played some nice passes.
Turley 6 - Still not fully match fit, and caught a couple of times in possession but did what he had to do and didn’t make any real errors.
Clay 7 - Another big game. Pulled the strings in the midfield and spearheaded most of our chances.
Macanuff 6 - Another who is still not match fit, and looks as if he won’t be featuring on Saturday. Decent on the ball but went missing for large periods.
Brophy 4 - Thought he was poor today and really struggled to complete, due to their physicality. Seemed to lose it more often than not going forward and not tight enough on the wingers when he switched to full back.
Koroma 6 - Some decent runs but never really threatened their keeper.
Bonne 6 - Some poor hold up play and failed to read flick ons. Having said that ran a fair distance and created one of our best chances with a shot that was well saved.

Subs:
Lee 6 - Did all that was asked of him and a decent run towards the end.
JMD 6 - Also had a decent run from the defence, didn’t do much else.
Harrold 7 - Won some great flick ons and really busts a gut to win challenges.

As you say, was a pretty awful game to watch but got a hard fought draw and thats what everyone would have taken before a ball was kicked. And the Salford result just made it better.

Thought we were sloppy in possession first half and improved second. Massively rode our luck again (cant remember Orient having this much luck in the last 3-4 weeks) and was lucky at the death with a free header from 5 yards. Was ready to go up there and deck Craig Clay myself for a moment.

Brill - 5 - Great save from the FK but everything else was poor. Couldn't deal with long throws, slow off his line and couldn't catch a cold today.

Widdowson - 5 - Didn't really do anything going forward and got caught a few times defensively. Was sleeping when their player ran in behind him which was about 2 inches from being a goal.
Happe - 7 - MOTM - Much better than Friday and had a few moments of maturity to ease their players off the ball in dangerous positions.
Coulson - 7 - Won loads in the air, despite getting arms and legs flying into him.
Ekpiteta - 6 - Relatively quiet game but did what he had to.
Turley - 5 - Wasteful in possession, caught out a few times at the back and should have done better with the header.

McAnuff - 6 - Didn't really do anything. Looked shattered.
Clay - 7 - Probably our best player first half but didn't really affect the game much second.

Brophy - 6 - Hard to rate. Got in some really good positions but a bit wasteful. Bumpy pitch didn't help him.

Koroma - 6 - Did really well for our first chance but a quiet day
Bonne - 6 - Almost scored a really good goal and maybe should have done better. didn't stop running all game.

Subs:
Lee - 6 - Was that a sprint i saw? TBF to him he shored us up and was pretty solid. Long throw almost lead to a goal too.
Harrold - 7 - He's like a different player in the last month. The first time we won anything against their defence was after he came on. Great hold up play.
JMD - 5 - Not much other than messing up a 2 on 2 at the death.

JE - 8 - Really hard game to prepare for against a physical side. Thought he got it pretty much spot on apart from a few times we got done over the top (not new, we need to sort that for next year). Credit to the club and compared with his first game at solihull last time, he's done a remarkable job.

Would agree with Wumbles ratings rather than judes - maybe thats because we were both watching on the tv so got a different perspective?

Great result, great effort all round but man did we ride our luck a little. After getting booked for nothing, Clay could easily have been booked twice after. Brillo got lucky on a couple of occassions. And no idea how that bloke missed that free header at the end. But I would argue that we've earnt that luck from our efforts over the whole season.

What a fantastic day and what a fantastic weekend, couldn't have dreamed it would go this well.

All this talk of luck is superstitious nonsense and you of all people should know better.

It's not luck it's because the opposition are cack that they don't take chances.

I'm more or less in agreement with Wumbles ratings. OJ is too generous. But in no way was Happe MOTM.

Not sure that’s true. He looked pretty down when he came off, showed him and JE in discussion and there was some head shaking going on.

He is carrying a groin injury, it's tough and he's putting it on the line for the team, marvellous effort. I wouldn't be surprised if he started Sat and came off again, then again Justin may say you've got 3 weeks to rest do some rehab and get ready for Wembley cos at his age he probably won't play there again and he deserves to lead the team out there.
