To me he doesnot command his area and he was at fault with the either the 2nd or was it the 3 rd goal where a cross came in and he punched the ball out to a Ww player instead of catching it.I think half the goals scored Vigs would have saved or dealt with. Thank goodness Sol is returning in a few weeks. Why put Sargeant on transfer list and give a contract to somebody who has not played League football.
So when strikers are through with only the keeper to beat, you expect the keeper to save it, get real. Sargeant is now playing football in the second division in Ireland, in my opinion at a lower level than where we got Howes from.
RW made comment that Sarge left as he was at a stage of his career where he needed to play games.

The vitriol being dished out towards this young player really disappoints me. He’s been thrown in the deep end and been ok. Sure, not great but ok.

He’s an inexperienced keeper who is playing in a team under the pump because of injuries. Let’s get behind him ffs.
Agree mainly but he's 25, hardly a YTS kid.

I appreciate that but I am sure neither he or the club expected him to be playing first team football at this stage of the season. The criticism he is getting on this board is embarrassing. He doesn’t deserve it. I didn’t think he was that bad. I have seen plenty worse in an Orient shirt. Just think a few people on here need to revisit the definition of a supporter.

Will Norris was signed from Burnley and has played in the Premier League for them and Wolves.
Howes has come from the National League but it will take time before he’s L1 standard, although he made some good 1 v 1 saves last night and was let down by some of the defenders in front of him .
Exactly. Ok, he should have perhaps dominated his six yard box. That would have helped Beckles for the first. However, I get that he stays on his line and doesn’t commit himself and potentially misses it.

Like others have said I thought his distribution was sound and he made some good saves and interceptions. He did ok last night.

We are not Arsenal and can’t afford to have a quality keeper on the bench. I would rather Howlers than an untried kid,at least he’s had NL experience and was at pro clubs before. Yes he’s far from the finished article but if he were he wouldn’t be here🙊

He had an excellent season for Wealdstone in the National League. There's not much difference between the NL and League 2. But League 1 is a jump. He was brought in to be a number 2 we can develop, he's ended up in goal because of a freak accident. He's probably better than Bryne because he's had more first team games in the last season or two.

Howes only had half a season in NL. Not sure the club expected him to play in L1. Given Brynn will be back in a few weeks there is now no imperative to get a new loan keeper. So Howes or Byrne it is for the next few games. The footballing side of the club is not functioning well at present - injuries, suspensions (including RW / PT) and a puzzling recruitment programme. Time for ML to get a grip and influence all. Cannot face L2 foot again....

The question surely should be is he better than Byrne ? If not , then it makes no sense . Byrne looked pretty good when we saw him

That's the mystery, Byrne's record was really good when he played in cup games iirc though during the changeover from KJ to RW he seemed to fall back down the pecking order somewhat.

Throw a kid like Byrne into the fire of his first league game at a new level when we are bang out of form and the defence is shocking - that’ll help

Many, many good examples in league 1 of clubs successfully plucking players from the NL that go on to have good careers.

I don’t think we can necessarily fault the club for trying this with the second string keeper. When he signed it made perfect sense to me, he’ll take some time to bed in but could still come good

Vigs kept one clean sheet in his first six games for the club and it took him time to settle as well.

I can`t see that Howes has made any huge errors so far. He could have handled a couple of situations better, but he has done ok under the circumstances. Lets support him :lofc: .

We signed him as decent cover for Brynn, which he is.

According to Sky Sports he pulled off two or three very good saves this afternoon . Our poor start to this season hasn't been down to the keeper , it's been our defence . To be fair , apart from a couple of shaky moments it sounds like our defence played a lot better today . We've got to build on that now and try and take all three points off Cambridge next Saturday .

Sounds like Howlers had a decent afternoon. First clean sheet for him as well. Let’s hope it continues.

The other thing to keep in mind is he's getting more League 1 experience with each passing game . That can only be a good thing .

All 3 were on the touchline as the correction message given by the club yesterday stated. Real Orient fans know these things.
