Highlights - Orient 0 Pompy 4

Post by The Reverend »

Goodness me. I hope to never see that goalie in an Orient shirt ever again. Having a non-league standard keeper in our starting line up is embarrassing.

2 goals from set pieces, which was happening a lot pre-season and the fourth is a horror show all round

Hard to blame Howes for any aside from maybe the 2nd imo.

Hunt at least partly at fault for the first two goals and almost gave away another. Not sure what’s gotten into him.

Beckles defending for the pen is awful from start to finish. He’s too f*cked to defend properly so just holds onto their player at various times for about 10 seconds of that clip.

His positioning and dithering for the first is unacceptable.

Granted, Hunt is primary at fault for the second but goalie doesn’t cover himself in glory either.

The third is unlucky but getting lobbed by your own player from 8 yards out isn’t a good look.

Can’t blame him for the pen…the build up to Beckles attempting judo on their player is a sh*tshow all around.

If he saves the 2nd, it’s an absolutely worldie of a save, so I don’t think you can blame him, possibly Vigoroux might have though. Defending shambolic though, was that Hunt that lost his man? Schoolboy.

Howes does look to be caught out a bit for the 3rd in terms of his positioning, but there’s no way he could’ve expected Beckles to do that.

The first as well, I’ve seen plenty of those goals when they just sneak in, it’s unlucky but I don’t think Howes is to blame.

Overall, for me he’s not at fault for any of the goals, the defending was just awful

That's right, give the young man who's just stepping out into the football league, all the confidence you can muster.

I’m scapegoating Howes too, sorry. He could have done a lot better with the first, and his inability to convey confidence to his defenders played a large part in their mistakes.

The first looks worse the more you see it, he seems to leave the ball thinking it's going wide.

Second would be a spectacular save but he's got a lot of glove on it. Reckon he'll be disappointed not to keep that one out after watching it back.

Third and fourth no chance on either of those.

Its only because Hunt lost his aerial battles that pompey got a chance on goal for the first two.

Theo was marking the No.7 for the first goal but not tightly enough
Hunt was poor all game and lost his man for the 2nd
Ditto for Beckles really………not sure Howes could have done much more but it looked to me as though the defence lacked confidence with a reserve keeper who was making his L1 debut, I think.
We played well up until Pompey scored but from there it just got worse 🥺

I'm not necessarily defending his performance from yesterday, just the summing up of the opening post about Howes rating which was harsh and belittling.

Vigs saves the 1st and 2nd goals, and probably the 3rd. Wouldn't bet against him saving the penalty either, given his track record.

Of course there's more to it than just this but having a non-league keeper starting for us in L1 is always going to cost us. We need someone else in before Tuesday.

Agreed that he saves 1 & 2. Not sure about 3. Given that Vigs was a cat at saving pens he might have kept the 4th out as well.

I’m not saying that the goalie is the only reason for the poor result but he’s clearly way below the standard required for L1. I’m slightly baffled as to why we bought him in to begin with. If you’re bringing in back up to help develop the younger keeper(s) then you get an experienced oldie in. Not some random bloke from the conference who has never played league football before.

Have to agree with most on here not sure what he could have done about any of those goals.

Think you're just looking for a scapegoat.

See my response to Max Fowler above. I’m not saying the goalie is solely to blame for the result but he doesn’t come out well in those highlights. Neither does Hunt or Beckles.

Vigs saves at least two of those, possibly 3 (the pen was hardly unstoppable)

I had a very good view of both first half goals and I think Richie will be disappointed on how bad the defending was leading up to them especially the second. Both opening games we have been taken apart by wide players,Saturday the guy crossing it from the right could have had a 3 course meal before putting the cross in. Brynn will be missed I have no doubt as I thought he commanded his box very well at Charlton. Howes is what you get unfortunately when you dive into none league and to be honest you can’t put the goals solely down to him. Why they didn’t bring a permanent first choice keeper in(especially paying a fee for a second choice keeper) and getting a loan in as back up? I was under the impression that Richie wanted better class players in the squad and not dipping into the lower leagues but perhaps I was wrong.🙈

He's here to sit on the bench in case we need to bring a sub keeper on mid game, that's all.

If the injury to brynn is serious, we will be bringing in a new number 1. The only problem is we need that player in here yesterday, and Lingy doesn't do anything at speed.

The whole back defensive organisation was awful, the full backs in particular were all over the place. Rhys Byrne should also be proper pissed that Howe is ahead of him, looked streets ahead of him when he played last season.

I know he was brought in for that reason Max but a goalkeeper is a specialised position and arguably one of the most important imo it’s often overlooked. Think there were plenty available pre season. I really hope Brynn comes back because I think he’s quality personally🙈

The reason they were Adz was because the fullback were over worked and when you get one in particular that isn’t at the top of his game your in trouble. Neither Ruel or Theo are the greatest at backing up the full backs at present and that is why we are getting torn apart.last season we started off by playing a pressing game, that’s not Pigots forte or Ruels as he’s not physically strong enough plus Moncur just hasn’t got the stamina to do so🙈
