North Stand Yesterday

Post by Highwood Man »

It looked half empty from my vantage point in the Tommy Johnston stand. Where are all the ghost children? Presumably on holiday.

This is the problem with putting the prices up and membership, last season, winning everyweek, good vibes, you'll get the casual fans, start losing and the happy clappers will go, let alone the cold midweek games

there was a surprising number of empty seats all around the ground - obviously this number grew through the second half. But the record will show there were more than 8,000 there.

Yeah we 4-0 down but it was not the horror show the score suggests. When the players went to clap the North Stand crowd at the end of the game, there were precious few people left.

Or maybe a few people and their kids away on holiday?

Well the proof will be in the pudding in November/December if Orient are sitting in the bottom five etc, losing every week, what the crowds are like then

Must admit. It did wrangle a little paying £29 for that, plus £25 travel and £11 for a flat bud and a chewy ‘premium’ hotdog. Can’t see myself doing that too much if we struggle this year

Charge the adults full price and the kids £5 a game or less. Or keep it the same and if the season tickets aren’t scanned together for more than 50% of the games, then charge the adult more at the end of the season to make up the shortfall

But why?

We didn't sell out our first game in League one in years against one of the biggest teams in the league. We also served up a right stinker of a performance which is obviously going to be more representative of this year than last years wins and is obviously going to impact on repeat custom.

It's still bonkers that they capped season tickets, 50 quid in the bank from a ghost kid plus food and merchandise from the ten games they go to will still add up to more than 2 games in a season from a pay as you go fan who has the ability to not bother when we're getting humped each week.

This new moaning about people who don't come thing, is one of the unedifying aspects that irritates me about modern Orient supporting. A decade ago no one was upset to see empty seats at a crap lower league club, we've got more expensive, and with the issues around parking less accessible than then so why have we lost the traditional feeling of being grateful for anyone turning up?

I wouldn’t mind Betting that if the club continue to see empty seats in home areas ( East Stand )they reverse the decision to limit ticket sales to away fans.
Portsmouth could probably have filled the East stand on Saturday meaning more money in the clubs coffers, but of course this would seriously pi@@ off our fans with season tickets in the East.
I was surprised that we didn’t sell out on Saturday but ticket prices are quite high.
My wife and 4 year old Granddaughter came on Saturday and we paid £53 in the West.

8000+ is near a sellout though, if people dont turn up thats their choice.

I notice the resale offer had risen significantly to £15

The North didn't feel particularly empty on Saturday but there were - yet again - lots of groups of blokes without any kids with them.

These guys are basically stealing from the club.

Any fan with a season ticket who has to move so that some tramp from Derby or Bolton can have it should boycott all home games for the rest of the season and not buy a season ticket in future.

It’s a disgusting way to treat your most loyal fans.

TBH, aside from the North end (which probably has to be empty for safety reasons) the East stand looked pretty full with home fans. I hate giving away the whole stand to away fans. It's tinpot an disrespectful of the fans, players and staff.

Agreed on the lunacy of capping season tickets when optimism was high in the lead up to the start of the season. Money in the bank and I reckon they could have sold at least another 500.

Why? Because my season ticket has gone up and I’m paying £394 for essentially the same view as some bloke up the other end who is paying £289 for himself and £59 for ‘his child’. People are exploiting the system and it isn’t fair.

If the adult was paying £394 and the kid was paying a nominal fee, I wouldn’t give a f***.

Maybe it’s about time that the club clamped down on these guys with ‘ ghost kids’ .
Devlin seems to be trying to squeeze money wherever he can from fans, maybe he should take some action here.

Still haven't seen any actual evidence that ghost kids are any more prevalent than any other type of ghost ST holder. Also: it's the school holidays.

Getting beat 4-0 at home is not the fault of absent schoolchildren.

Agree completely with this, and unedifying is the correct word. I didn't make the game on Saturday, despite having a ST and not being on holiday. Why? I had something else I wanted to do.

Clearly, this isn't okay with these types.

However, if you can absolutely commit to 100% of home games without exception ever (and look down on those who can't or won't, in a weird "I'm a real fan, you're not" kind of way ) then it may be wise to look at why your life involves so little bar watching lower league football matches. There is no space to take the moral high-ground; you're likely a little bit tragic.

What part of the people paying less money for a ticket by pretending they have a child don’t you get?

No one cares if people miss games, there’s loads of times I can’t be arsed going because I’m hungover.

What I don't get is why do you give a f*** what other people have paid? If it upsets you so much why not do it yourself? The cub is run at a loss so it's not like 40 quid either way makes a difference?

If you like drinking as I guess you do if you're always hungover the South Stand bar is well worth the extra 40 quid over the North which is a proper grim stand for facilities. If I didn't have kids I wouldn't want to be in the North.

I know it's very British to hate kids but the ridiculous average age of match going fans means even if we were just paying adults to drag their kids along every now and then, it'd be money well spent in terms of recruiting new fans at a time when no child free to make their own choices is going to choose 3rd division football over the Premier League.

I make you right (subject to slight write down on the North price because there's no bar).

The issue here isn't 1 dad and 1 or 2 kids who don't always show up. It's 'family groups' of 4, 5, 6 adults all getting a reduced ticket price with just 1 kids ST, and the kid never/rarely attends.
