Yes I agree, be interesting if they really do implement it which I doubt but we could be witnessing 20 penalties per game,plus 30 minutes added time. Never going to happen

I genuinely hope they do something. It’s got out of control over the last few years. Not sure a red card is required. If a penalty is awarded it would soon stop. Can’t see it happening but let’s see.

Anyone paying attention the last few years would see that the directives given to referees are absolutely acted upon, often in a way that seems extreme.
This is a welcome directive, and the first week or two of the season will probably see a record number of penalties until players catch on

But as a season ticket holder if he doesn't go won't he then get shamed by all the real fans(tm)?

I make my kids sit through the games so an extra twenty mins is just punishing them even further.

I'd take 30 mins each way with the clock stopped. You'd get the same amount of current football but also get it wrapped up in under 2 hours.

What I’d be interested in the mean time is this: running the game time as planned for this season, but the actual times that the referee stops his watch, and the duration of the stops is recorded, and this information is public after the match concludes. The referee has to clarify/explain if the added time doesn’t agree with the time lost. Run this for a trial period before deciding what steps to take next

In practice, a player who is actually injured will be out of action for at least thirty seconds anyway, so the impact of this rule will be negligible, but will mean that faking an injury could backfire on the player doing it.

I do agree that something should happen to address a team being at a numerical disadvantage due to a foul on them though

In the perennial backwater of Scotch football at the beginning of the season a few years back they decided refs should enforce for the penalty box holding shenanigans.

It was quickly abandoned after one ref ( I think Willie Young) gave four penalties in one game for said offence.

Indeed, a quick foul on a defender before a corner to get them down to 10 men and then take advantage of the extra player seems like a potential tactic for this

On this topic does that mean that Omar would not have been sent of at Gills under these rules or is it different outside the box? Same applies to Ogie at Mansfield - were both proper challenges for the ball. I'm guessing not....
