Re: Just Stop Oil
My son is taking part in a social experiment and has to wear an orange Just Stop Oil t-shirt to gauge reaction.
So far, he's been spat on, punched, and had a bottle thrown at him.
I'm curious to see what happens when he goes out of the house.

Re: Just Stop Oil
What’s fascinating to me is that people who say “they’re raising awareness! You might not like it but it works” will have no issue pointing out that red dwarf, spen, and LSN have misunderstood the aims of “Just Stop Oil” but won’t recognise that the reason those people have misunderstood their aims is because of the sheer stupidity of Just Stop Oil’s messaging and methods, starting from the imbecilic name.
Similar to how “defund the police” was an utterly ludicrous slogan that played 100% into the hands of people wanting to caricature the loony positions of progressives

Re: Just Stop Oil
What would be a better name to get the people onside who will never engage with their aims and argument anyway?
Re: Just Stop Oil
I don’t think I suggested that they should target their actions towards those who would never get on board.
My suspicion is that there are plenty of people who are
A: persuadable
B: not particularly invested one way or the other.
In my opinion any climate activism by design should be intended to reach the persuadable, to build a mainstream movement not easily dismissed.
With that aim in mind, I would suggest that as an organisation, Just Stop Oil is fundamentally not fit for that purpose, but for argument’s sake, here are some names off the top of my head, with the aim of a name that can’t be dismissed out of hand with takes like “lol if we stopped oil we wouldn’t survive a day”, along with subheadings that summarise the message, serving as useful mission statements
1: Oil Crisis (if we don’t force governments to drastically cut new uses of oil, the consequences will be disastrous)
2: Life After Oil (society HAS to adjust to a post oil world. We need to start now)
3: Time To Change That Oil (see first summary)
4: Well Oil Be Damned (reliance on oil affects the worlds most vulnerable. We need to stop seeing it as a resource and see it as increasingly becoming a curse)
5: Ban New Oil Contracts (specific to JSO’s current main objective, specific, measurable, targeted)
I’m not convinced that “what else could they do?” is a good enough reason to stand by while a group with a cause that is essential, misguidedly alienates a very large portion of the general public by doing protests which are a gift to climate deniers or those who want to preserve the status quo: “this woman can’t get her baby to hospital” type clips is utterly, utterly stupid.
As for what to actually do? Disrupt Parliament. Stage sit down protests at MP’s offices. Barricade Downing Street. Communicate. Convince. Talk to people. Talk to people more.

Re: Just Stop Oil
It must be frustrating to encounter people who never engage with aims and arguments though, I’ve definitely never experienced this when I’ve taken issue with people on the left that I’m broadly aligned with…

Only one of those titles contains exactly 3 words, and if the last 10 years has taught us anything at all - it's that the public just loved 3 word slogans.

Re: Just Stop Oil
The crass stupidity of people is amazing: highest ever temperatures in Europe, wildfires all over the World, experts saying not POSSIBLY Global warming but definitely Global warming. So what does the Government do, attack Labour's ULEZ policy in London and refuses a sensible scrappage scheme. Blows cold on electric cars. Confining wind turbines to off shore positions. No wonder people don't take it seriously. Time for people to reflect and drive Politicians to take up sensible policies. With more thought put in to alternatives we could stop funding the mediaeval Arab countries and maybe force them into the 21st Century.

Re: Just Stop Oil
We need to take action quicker, but this government arent interested in governing. There are things that could be done that'd benefit the economy and improve people's lives, but they're not interested.

Re: Just Stop Oil
The climate problem will never be solved because it’s down to humans to solve it. We are far too self centred and greedy aside from the fact most governments have a short shelf life and nobody is going to be the first to put serious limits on human behaviours. As far as just stop oil, I would give them a toot if I see them. At least they care.

Equalizer0:-Didn't Boris come up With ULEZ ?
Yes he did, but the Labour Mayor wanted to extend the scheme to outer London Boroughs. In the Uxbridge by-election, the Tories weaponised this. White Van Man, made a big fuss about this, as his dodgy polluting, probably dangerous white van would cost him extra bucks touring London, doing dodgy jobs at exorbitant prices ( cash in hand ) whilst paying no income tax.

...if dinosaurs had developed both advanced photographic and space exploratory technology to intercept said asteroid whilst in orbit. Also, a media storage device that would have preserved image quality for 65million years.
Quite frankly, the fact they didn't suggests that the deserved to go extinct. Lazy f*ckers.
The face they clearly
