That being said, quite funny to see yet another company singularly failing to understand what might get turned up by an SAR.
Yes. Coutts have f*cked themsleves. As someone who works for a company that receives plenty of SARs, I've learnt the hard way that nothing goes through any form of internal digital communication that you would not feel comfortable with appearing on the front page of a newspaper.

And Farage has absolutely seized the opportunity presented to him.

Is this the right time to confess I was once offered a job by a mate in Coutts tax department. Obviously I didn't take it.

“In chapter three of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula, Jonathan Harker lists the recipients of several of Dracula's letters in his journal, including: "... the third was to Coutts & Co., London".”

Even Dracula was aligned with Coutts’ values

Great advertising for them , All free of charge .
Don't think "any publicity is good publicity" is relevant here. This isn't saving them money on taking out an ad in Metro. They're Coutts, they don't need to self publicise and all this has done has made them look like a bunch of eggs. Everyone's unhappy.

BBC apologizes for getting it wrong. Now on to the "trusted and senior source" (though it's pretty obvious who it is)

I work in the financial industry and it’s absolutely drummed into all of us where I am the need for confidentiality, treating customers fairly etc etc. We each have annual mandatory training on a range of financial subjects we have to take & pass. So for someone at a very senior level to disclose personal information like that, as seems to be where the smart money is, is totally gobsmacking and quite frankly sackable.

Farage's problem again first item on tonights 10pm news. WTF?
A man peeved at having his super elite bank account cancelled , a man who claims to be spokesperson for the downtrodden white Brits .... now gets the downtrodden to be outraged about lovable Nigel being excluded from the super elite bank.

WTF?

The CEO of a part publicy-owned bank is having to resign because she briefed a journalist working for the state broadcaster about a private customer. That said customer happens to be Nigel Farage adds juice to the story and he was in a position to generate the publicity.

Farage is gonna Farage, but this is a big story for the day. Maybe it should have been the second or third news item, but first isn't entirely unreasonable either.

Whether one likes Farage or not is irrelevant, sure it makes it a bigger story if anyone in the public eye is the victim, but the CEO of a banking group disclosing personal customer info to a journalist is wrong and breaches various FCA regulations. Chuck in the political motives behind it – thankfully we are all entitled to our opinion in a free speech country – then it was always going to be a big story.

What astonishes me is the Nat West Board backed Alison Rose yesterday evening, despite her position at that point clearly being untenable. If I or one of my colleagues had disclosed personal customer data in the financial company for whom I work (not Nat West), we’d have been sacked on the spot, and rightly so.

It’s a funny one, this, because the description of him from their internal emails (a “disingenuous grifter” who promoted “xenophobic, chauvinistic and racist views”) is entirely accurate, and I sort of admire them for their dim view of him. I’d have thought Coutt’s would have more of a… Swiss approach to their customer base.

That said, until it’s illegal to be a fascist, I’m not sure you can just close somebody’s bank account for it without causing a shitstorm. Don’t know what they were thinking.

Also, disclosing his personal finances publicly is an absolute howler, even if it was quite funny.

In China, anyone who states anything on social media that is against the doctrine of the ruling Chinese Chinese Communist party is risking losing their job and also having their bank account shut down and being unable to open another one anywhere else. This business has played right into Nigel Farage's hands, he was beginning to run out of things to say on his GB news slot, now this subject will keep him going for many months. As the famous old saying goes.....''I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it'' !
NatWest boss Dame Alison Rose has now resigned after leaking information to the BBC about ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage

''Will Alison Rose get severance pay ? At this stage, we simply don't know - but the BBC has contacted NatWest and asked.
What we do know is that Dame Alison Rose's remuneration was at risk when she admitted "a serious error in judgement" after she said she discussed Nigel Farage's relationship with the bank with the BBC's business editor Simon Jack.
In a statement released just hours before Rose's resignation, NatWest's chair Sir Howard Davies said: "The events will be taken into account in decisions on remuneration at the appropriate time."
Rose was paid £5.25m last year. That includes £2.4m in fixed pay, a £643,000 bonus and £2.1m in share payments........OMG !!

Glad to see the back of Dame Alison Rose. In February she refused to appear before the House of Commons Treasury select committee to answer questions about why her bank wasn't passing on benefits from interest rate rises to savers, but at the same time increasing the costs of mortgages and loans.

She said she was "too busy", despite personal appeals to her, but eventually relented.

Hope she regrets getting pissed at a charity dinner and trying to impress the BBC journo. She thought she was untouchable and has now paid the price with her reputation.

Quite obscene money was being paid to her indeed, wonder if she will also get a big pay off ?
How the other 5% live. Also wonder in the course of time, if she will get another highly paid job once the fuss dies down ?
And she received a Dame hood, wonder on what grounds that prestigious title was awarded ?
