Re: Tonights games
Just back from Ebbsfleet - who like to play football. We came up against our midfield from 6 years ago in Josh Wright and Ouse Cisse!
Negatives:
Tom James - offered nothing
Dan Agyei - was shackled playing on the right but played better when the triallist went off on about 70 minutes.
Aaron Drinnan - played like he normally does. Missed the goal when clean through and fluffed two other opportunities in the 6 yard area
Middle of the park - offered no protection to the centre backs.
Positives:
El Miz - worth the entrance fee
Galbraith - you can see why Ritchie likes him - but I don't know how both of these boys can play without a protector (presumably Sanders).
Ruel Sotirou - just makes the list. Offered the movement playing behind Drinnan that others (Drinnan and Agyei) failed to.
Triallist watch:
Josh Martin formerly of Norwich was the man. Meh. Had more shots than anyone else, only beat his man once and that led to his only cross that I can remember and then he left the pitch as a result of cramp. Technically adept, but not an outlet and not positive enough on the night.
Ebbsfleet:
A National League side who try to play football; led by Josh Wright and who used the opportunities when presented to go at us (as opposed to us turning back and holding onto the ball for another 20 seconds). They could/should have been 5 up at half time and thats not an exaggeration. They then had 5 minutes at the start of the second half before we took full control.

Re: Tonights games
Disagree about Sanders. Thought he, Moncur, and Brown played well. Duncan was the trialist and looks out of his depth but think he is a winger but played up front tonight. Marley St Louis played right back 2nd half and looked comfortable.

Theo was screaming DUNKS DUNKS DUNKS at one point when he failed to play the ball to him so yeah, sure it was him.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:12 pmThink it was looking at online photos but hard to be sure. He played up top and couldn’t hold the ball and missed 2-3 chances. Harsh to judge in 70 mins but not for meProposition Joe wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:01 pmWas it Duncan? Being charitable it sounds as if he did not grasp his chance(s) to impress.

Re: Tonights games
Don't think you can say anyone played well tonight, it was just about the names getting closer to 90 minutes, which most of them did.
Obeiro was the only one outside the first XI that stood out, and only when he moved back into midfield from the wing.

Sanders was nice and tidy with the ball but he's not a protector at all, he's a ball playing 4.LittleMate wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:30 pm Galbraith - you can see why Ritchie likes him - but I don't know how both of these boys can play without a protector (presumably Sanders).

In the old days of 4-4-2 and before squad numbers, I always thought that 2 was right back, 3 left back, 5 & 6 centre halves, 8 & 4 centre mid, 7 & 11 wingers and 9 & 10 up front

" I Like to get on the ball & play , I can play the 8, sit deep or be part of a 2" . Sanders own words when he signed .Max Fowler wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:01 pmSanders was nice and tidy with the ball but he's not a protector at all, he's a ball playing 4.LittleMate wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:30 pm Galbraith - you can see why Ritchie likes him - but I don't know how both of these boys can play without a protector (presumably Sanders).

I always thought 4 and 5 were the centre back, back in the 80s definitely.WhetstoneO wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 8:51 am In the old days of 4-4-2 and before squad numbers, I always thought that 2 was right back, 3 left back, 5 & 6 centre halves, 8 & 4 centre mid, 7 & 11 wingers and 9 & 10 up front

Re: Tonights games
So he doesn't mention being a protector in that - which from the game last night, I'd agree with.Equaliser0 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 9:05 am" I Like to get on the ball & play , I can play the 8, sit deep or be part of a 2" . It's all this new fangled bollox, numbers to describe positions, that the kids like PJ use.Adz wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 12:15 amWhen did 4 stop being a centre half?Max Fowler wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 11:01 pmSanders was nice and tidy with the ball but he's not a protector at all, he's a ball playing 4.LittleMate wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 10:30 pm Galbraith - you can see why Ritchie likes him - but I don't know how both of these boys can play without a protector (presumably Sanders).
