I think Shads problems started when he got sent off in the penultimate game of the season, a coupleof seasons back, meaning he would miss the first game of the next season.
Happe came in as his replacement, but played so well, he was undroppable, and Shad lost his place. Up until that moment, Ogie was ahead of Happe in the pecking order.
Losing your place in the team is frustrating, and I think Shad let it be known he was unhappy.
Although Im a bit shell shocked by this, If Richie thinks its the right thing to do, then I'll go with that
I agree with that summing up. Happe did not tick Kenny's box but certainly improved under RW and of course he is taller than Ogie and better at heading the ball. all important as a centre half. Last season Dan Happe made the centre half position his own and Ogie never really got back into contention for a regular first team place and with the team pushing for promotion, when Happe got injured Os brought in Ed Turns on loan from Brighton and he slotted into the team and pushed Ogie even further down the pecking order.

Didn't seem too much of an issue for the likes of McCarthorse and that Lydon fella.
training with intensity and conducting yourself correctly. The reason he got McCart and Turns was on top of Happes injury and Beckles suspension Ogie was also injured.

We have Beckles, Happe as only fit CBs at the club.
Thompson is injured and imo needs to be 4th choice CB, so let’s wait and see what twists n Turns this week brings 🤔

Yes, Mccarthorse and Lydon couldn't conduct themselves properly on the pitch on Saturdays but were still selected for the matchday squads...

Two different things though - both good pros I leave Wellens to judge ability and back whoever he brings in or let’s go - he had Lyndon at Swindon and he was well thought of,McCart played games at championship level he made a slow start here but he got better.

Well we've got some money now from this transaction to pay Macca his Championship wages if he does ever re-sign for us :o

Good luck with the Gills, Shad.

I am not sure Happe is fit. He has hardly played any games since January and has missed the first part of our pre-season training. That is why I was surprised by this sale. I take it for granted that we will bring another CB today or tomorrow.

It is ok to question/disagree with/not understand individual decisions made by Richie, yet still think he's doing an amazing job.

Wellens said Happe was still undergoing his own rehab programme and not training as the others were in an interview last week/the week before.

There is definitely someone else coming in. I just hope to God it's not Turns....

Little surprised and a little disappointed, but wish Shad well, Gills are a team on the up.

I suspect few would have had Ogie in ahead of Happe last season, but it was soon clear that RW had got Happe playing superbly, and few would then have argued. Ogie has a lot going for him, physicality one thing. Always felt he was likely to dwell on the ball that touch too long and that is something he needs to cut out, for he does get caught in possession at times.

Agree the consensus here who say to expect another CB to enter, and Turns on a season long loan could well be possible.

Indeed and RW mentioned he knew he'd only likely get a few games out of Lyden but that was enough to give El Miz and Pratley a bit of R&R to freshen them up for the run-in

McCart seemed to be well off the pace match fitness-wise, fortunately Turns stepped up instead

Obviously a few people are layering on post-hoc explanations, some of which might also draw on subconscious prejudices.

That said, I'm afraid that young Mr Ogie is a bit of a mess in certain respects. Wellens' comment about "values" is quite telling. It's never been about ability, or even just plain "attitude".

For those of us observing at a distance, it was always a bit bewildering why he never seemed to get a look in under RW - if it was based purely on what we could see on the pitch.

He's a very talented player and I hope whatever off the pitch stuff that Wellens has taken against gets sorted, cause he's got it in him to go far in the game. Hopefully we have a decent sell on clause in case it does come together there.

I remember watching Ogie in a pre-season friendly at Harlow and being mightily impressed. He got in the first team and looked very good under KJ but just seemed to lose his way a bit last season. I wish him all the best though - I always enjoyed watching him play.

I think he's too mistake prone for Richie, he almost cost us last week vs Charlton in Spain getting caught on the ball in our box and was bailed out by Sam Howes. Would imagine he would cost the Gills a few bob which we can spend elsewhere, I think Brown could end up there in time.
He's hardly ever let us down and show me a centre back who hasn't been caught on the ball.

Really disappointed with this.

Got himself sent off on the second from last game of the 21/22 season and Happe stepped up. Shad was unlucky with getting injured at Northampton though. Everything went wrong for us that day.

Seems like we have a 'familiar' CB signing very soon according to RW.

In the interview last night Ricie praises Shad especially his physicality. Said he would be 3rd or 4th choice and he needs to play. Says his concentration & focus are what he needs to improve. Video on web site
