Re: Jayden Sweeney
On the cusp of a starting spot, he'd be foolish to leave. At 21 years old, he will probably want to be playing more.

I imagine he wants assurances he’ll be starting if he signs and he’s also had offers from higher up the leagues.

I imagine it comes down to money - we've no doubt offered him kids money, he thinks he's worth a proper salary.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
I reckon both Hunt & James are ahead of him in the pecking order, so can understand why he wouldnt be committing, without assurances on how much he's likely to play
Its tough for RW, because James & Hunt are both better than him IMO.
He's not a vital player for us, so not bothered either way

Re: Jayden Sweeney
He was excellent last season and progressed massively, offering us a totally different option at full back to either Hunt or James.
You're wrong.

If there is any substance in the Frankie Kent rumours, I have a horrible gut feeling Sweeney could be involved in a deal with Peterborough for him.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
I doubted him, but he turned into a solid left back. He should certainly be looking to compete with Hunt for that position. I'd like us to have James, Hunt, Sweeney and perhaps a loan as our fullback options.

He's out of contract and therefore not our player so how would we include him as part of any deal?georgeleyo wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 10:17 am If there is any substance in the Frankie Kent rumours, I have a horrible gut feeling Sweeney could be involved in a deal with Peterborough for him.

Of course he is. He was one of our best players from February onwards.TRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 9:57 amHe's nowhere near being in a position to demand he starts.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 9:50 am I imagine he wants assurances he’ll be starting if he signs and he’s also had offers from higher up the leagues.

I’m not saying week in week out but that he’ll get more starts than last season.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
If Peterborough want him, they would have to pay compensation so could therefore offer Frankie instead of money

Re: Jayden Sweeney
We know his last contract was on a low wage, lower than Connor Woods. Obviously his new offer will be better, but as a youngster probably still not up to what he thinks he's worth now. I suspect he's just hanging it out to get what he can. If he's touting other clubs, I bet he doesn't show them the tape from his debut at Carlisle. I thought he'd never play again.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
He seems like a smart kid with a long term attachment to the club. Either we've offered him a stinker of a deal or he's being badly advised, because he's at the perfect place to develop and has a manager who trusts him. Find the situation a little odd.

I'm guessing he has an idea of what James and Hunt are on, and what Wood was on, and wants something nearer to what they're getting.
I dont find it odd at all.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
That is because you are not Jayden Sweeney. You do not know what considerations he is taking into account. You do not know what he has been offered and most importantly, you are looking through the eyes of a fan, not as someone whose financial future depends on what decisions they makeMistadobalina wrote: ↑Fri Jun 30, 2023 10:45 am He seems like a smart kid with a long term attachment to the club. It may be Sweeney does not feel valued by RW. It maybe he wants to relocate elsewhere in the country. He may have any number of reasons for not signing immediately.
He is an employee and must do what is best for him. Fans look at situations through the eyes of a fan, not the eyes of an employee who is looking out for himself.
A player owes no more loyalty to the club than any other person does to their employer
If the club are not happy with time it is taking him to make a decision, then can always withdraw their offer of a new contract

Re: Jayden Sweeney
Pointing out that I am not, in fact, Jayden Sweeney is taking your pedantry to a new level. Don't disagree with anything you've said, just that it's odd it's taken this long to resolve. On paper it seems like a no brainer for him to stay at a club hes been with his entire life and who's first team he's broken into during a very successful season. That suggests something is amiss, whether at his end or or how the club has handled it. Hopefully it get resolved and he continued as you always want home grown players succeeding.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
I don’t blame him too much. He was messed about a little bit last season. I get that Richie loves hunt and he’s a solid option but if you remember, Sweeney came in and smashed it but was unfairly replaced by Hunt and then sort of disappeared for a few months and only got back in the team when there were injuries, then smashed it again.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
I like Jayden as a player but think he offers far more going forward as maybe a wing back rather than an out and out defender.
Hunt will probably start before him and that could be why he’s hesitating in signing.

Re: Jayden Sweeney
I heard he decided to stay away from training on Monday. You think he might have learned from when Ruel did this. Gettng pre season under a players belt seems to be vital.
