Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Unlike Vigs not sure there will be loads of good luck messages. IMO too lighweight & injury prone.

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Inevitable really, we’re a way down the food chain and our success last season was always going to attract bigger fish above us to our better players.
I thank him for all his efforts over the past two seasons and wish him every success in the future.
Paul was certainly one of the best players seen in an Orient shirt in recent years.

We can build ANOTHER very good side. Should keep the moaners saying 'announce a signing!' a little bit quiet though!

What's more incredible is that's two early rumours in a row that turned out true
Best hope the chequebook comes out to get as many players as we need to fill all the gaps. That's at least 8 and counting now...Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:45 pmWe can build ANOTHER very good side. Should keep the moaners saying 'announce a signing!' a little bit quiet though!

Indeed but dont expect the chequebook to pay for a transfer fee!gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:45 pm What's more incredible is that's two early rumours in a row that turned out true

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Wages and sign-on fees for the players will be pricey enough to get quality and quantity in. No cheaping out and punting on a wafer thin squadLoyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:51 pmIndeed but dont expect the chequebook to pay for a transfer fee!gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:45 pm What's more incredible is that's two early rumours in a row that turned out true

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Prediction:
Year 1: gets injured before December. Out for rest of the season
Year 2: way down the pecking order, gets a few sub appearances and a start in the league cup. Injury niggles continue.
Year 3: loaned out to L2 team. Does alright. Released on a free at end of contract.

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Definitely possible. Of course, I'd like to see the bloke do well- great player for us but of course "flawed" to an extent due to injury..The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:18 pm Prediction:

Didn't QPR let him go to us originally IIRC?

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Here come the doom mongers - We paid £250k for Moncur last summer - If it's the right player at the right price no reason we won't pay a fee.Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:51 pmIndeed but dont expect the chequebook to pay for a transfer fee!gshaw wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:45 pm What's more incredible is that's two early rumours in a row that turned out true

There’s a reason QPR released him in the first place . Newsflash , he’s still the same. The Reverend wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 6:18 pm Prediction:

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Yes , they did . My QPR mate at work told me at the time he was a good player but too injury prone. Certainly a great player for us but he was championship standard player up against League 2 defenders . It will be different going up against Championship standard defenders . It will be interesting to see how he gets on and long he lasts before he gets an injuryScuba Diver wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:15 pmDefinitely possible. Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
Can't blame him for going back.
He will be on a decent wedge at QPR and unless he is on some dodgy pay-per-game contract, they will have to pay him that whether he plays or not.
I really hope he does well because he deserves it but like others. I suspect he will end up back in L1/L2 sooner rather than later.

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
3 year contract for a championship club he had spent 4 years at, also played under Ainsworth at Wycombe. So I hope he is getting a good wedge there and has a relegation get out clause. Thanks for the memories Smudger, an amazing 70% win rate when Smyth and Archibald played together. Good luck with the R's

Re: Smyth: officially gone to QPR
We were lucky to have such a talent at the club for a couple of years. Sure he'll be good when he plays in the championship. The big if is not being injured

Is this true? I have repeated that but been told the £300k figure quoted related to George's signing on fee and wages.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:33 pmHere come the doom mongers - We paid £250k for Moncur last summer - If it's the right player at the right price no reason we won't pay a fee.Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:51 pmIndeed but dont expect the chequebook to pay for a transfer fee!

Yes we did pay for Moncs but bear in mind we got that money from the Kypriannou sale.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:33 pmHere come the doom mongers - We paid £250k for Moncur last summer - If it's the right player at the right price no reason we won't pay a fee.Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2023 5:51 pmIndeed but dont expect the chequebook to pay for a transfer fee!
