A few weeks ago I heard from an in-law who is a teacher down south about a pupil 'identifying as a cat' . I immediately doubted the story too. I guess this was what they were talking about.

It never happened.

Childhood is tough enough without the world’s media vilifying you. If a kid wants to identify as a cat, then who cares? If it makes them feel a happier and more fulfilled human being, then why should adult society and the global media bully them over it?

Someone who identifies as a woman wants to be treated as a woman, so how should someone who identifies as a cat be treated?

My concern on it is this:
The focus on the “cat” part of this story provides some tabloid sensationalism, but also moves the window of what’s OK a bit more towards the mad: eg

“it’s one thing accepting that a boy is a girl, but accepting a kid is a cat? No way”

But the most important fact remains that boys with personalities and interests considered “feminine” are not girls, and that that matters.

Just puzzles me why so many mocking and hostile comments being directed at a part of the worlds community who are born different to others when it comes to how they feel and look when it comes to their own personal feelings about their sexuality. I have known ( since young ) people who were born in the wrong sex bodies, men who look and act like women and women who look and act like men, also some born intersex, neither fully male or female. The objections (which are not in any way based on mockery, not at all based on the idea people shouldn’t express themselves however they choose) are outlined here clearly.

1: not even trans activist organisations use “born in the wrong body” anymore. In fact, they avoid it completely, in favour of seeking to promote the idea (and enshrine it in law) that one’s body is irrelevant to whether someone is a man or woman.

Your sexism is showing. What does it mean to “act like a woman”? Is it possible that your backwards acceptance that there are male personalities that are actually *womanly* might be regressive and misogynistic?

3: you don’t understand “intersex” conditions - nobody is both male and female, or neither male nor female. Every intersex condition is sex specific. It’s also entirely irrelevant to trans activism

Perhaps don’t assume you know more than the left wing, progressive man who has wrestled with the subject and took it seriously in order to work out where he stands on it?
