Curtis Davies
So Beckles & Happe have yet to sign new contracts. We could be short at CB.
Curtis Davies has been released by Derby and has previously expressed a desire to play for the O’s, being a Leytonstone lad.
Quality player. Tons of experience at higher level. Likely to play at a hometown discount. Downside is his age 38.
As much as I like Beckles & Happe I hope Ling has had a cup of coffee with Curtis to discuss possibilities just in case.

Re: Curtis Davies
Probs would not mean much in the long run but also important to note that he is suspended for 3 games after getting sent off on the final day.

Re: Curtis Davies
To fulfil his ambition to play for the O’s I’m hoping he would accept a step down in wages to fit in with our salary structure.
Curtis is on record a few years ago saying he wanted to end his career at the O’s !

Is this the bit where you say "I wasn't making any point; I merely enlarged and bolded that sentence for no reason"?

Re: Curtis Davies
He's basically said he'd do it for very little as it's a lifelong ambition of his, only issue is his wife is settled in the Midlands.
I'd be really surprised if Beckles or Happe went, but could see Thompson being let go so he can play first team football. In that case Davies would be a terrific signing for a year. Sounds like a really good bloke, Ogie and Happe would have an excellent role model and would be perfect in a Wellens system. Also knows Wellens from playing days.

Re: Curtis Davies
If we lose Beckles we will need an experienced man at the back. Davies is a leader. Or maybe Jamie McCart is available !

One year contract. He played 22 times in L1 last year and has bags of experience. Let's face it we once signed Alvin Martin.

He played every game for them in 21/22 in the Championship. How comes he played so little last season out of favour or injuries?

I've done some research but can't be bothered to do any more. You're on your own.TRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 3:17 pm He played every game for them in 21/22 in the Championship. How comes he played so little last season out of favour or injuries?

He’s probably a bit old at 38 to play even half the gamesTRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 3:17 pm He played every game for them in 21/22 in the Championship. How comes he played so little last season out of favour or injuries?

Very badly from what I recall. But Curtis is no Alvin Martin.WilliamTell wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 5:08 pmBadly.TRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 3:14 pmHow did that work out?Max B Gold wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 2:57 pm One year contract. Re: Curtis Davies
Obviously it depends on whether Beckles and Happe re-sign for us again. We have Thompson under contract and it's been speculated that we might get Ed Turns back again on loan . If that all happens we won't need Curtis . I'd rather we spent the money on bringing in two central midfielders ( hopefully one is El-Miz ) , a decent striker and another winger , possibly Sadlier back again .

Re: Curtis Davies
Biggsy, You want Curtis Davies aged 40 playing in the 24-25 season? There's a reason why Derby let him go - and why we should swerve him.

Re: Curtis Davies
My mate supports Derby (and also has a soft spot for the O's) and he reckons we should swerve him..LittleMate wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 8:52 pm Biggsy, You want Curtis Davies aged 40 playing in the 24-25 season? There's a reason why Derby let him go - and why we should swerve him.
That is of course only 1 person's opinion.

Re: Curtis Davies
Would be a great asset to have, experience in this league which may help with how we approach some games defence wise. Could still put in a shift if required, as well as being a great addition to the coaching team.

Re: Curtis Davies
If we need any new CB's I think it's more likely we'd see McCart or Turns back on another loan.
