Isnt he going to walk for nothing at the end of the season? 300k is a decent amount, however, it doesn’t feel like it would go into the playing budget so we’ve gotta keep him.

Of course why not find out for yourself when you can make a judgement about someone's character from fake news & Internet rumours.

I'm talking from the clubs viewpoint. You surely aren't gonna be talking up Ekpiteta's weaknesses when dealing, and the flipside of it is that he has all the physical attributes, he is young enough to make improvements, and with a good season in League One he would be worth quite a lot more. Those factors are encouraging to Rotherham.

On paper I don't think there is much difference between Marv and this other fella at the same stage of the careers, so I'd demand the same cash.
Just saying that £500k is not dreamworld as you say. Unless you've seen this other guy as much as Marv and can say for sure? Potential is not an absolute trait and depends on perception.
Correct.
500k is the absolute minimum we should hold out for.
One decent season in l1 and he will be worth 4 times that.

Without a new contract what will he be worth in 6 months after a good, average or very poor season? Or in 12 months?

Too old for compensation (not that it would be much anyway).

Although I'd reckon some kind of dialogue would have already started after we got promoted, if he was intent on running his deal out and leaving on a free we should have sold in the summer. Bonne and Koroma signing new deals then getting sold says to me that there is a good understanding.

Of course if he has a stinker in the first half of the season his value will drop, but the main objective has to be survival in the League and he is one of our best players. We had offers for Bonne and Koroma in January, and if they had bombed in the second half of the season we would have lost out on those, the club didn't mind taking the gamble then.

I don't listen ;)

i heard something about the academy. I understand it, they want to offset losses. But it would be nice to see more of it in the pot to makes sure we dont struggle.

Yes. To be clear, if we signed him to a new two year contract my view on selling him for £300k guaranteed money would change.

I understand what you mean but I'd rather swallow the £300k and survive in the league .
The big flaw in your argument is it's not a case of keep him or we don't stay in League Two. We can sell him and survive in the league too. £300k and League Two football is better than League Two football and no fee.
I wish I had your confidence that we could sell more of our best players and survive but sorry , I don't.

I'd be pretty confident of surviving the bottom two even if we lost Ekpiteta. That doesn't mean I want him to go, I just don't think it would automatically mean relegation.

I'm thinking we've lost our two best players and have currently only made three new signings . You're probably right but I really don't want us to take the chance to find out .

Any decent offer is likely to be accepted. In the paper Ross said he was pleased no offers came in for Happe. The inference being they would have been considered

We are a selling club. Reasonable offers are likely to be accepted. The only issue is what is considered reasonable

If Rotherham have offered £300k then he is off. That is good money for a player who has never played a single minute of League football.
He was superb last season, if he has the chance to earn more ££ and play in a league above (much the same as Bonne and Koroma) then I don't begrudge him that.

luckily (unlike strikers) its a position we are strong in. He has a new agent, his head has obviously been turned. Whos to say he won't go to Rotherham, get promoted and sign for a big Championship club like Leeds next summer. Its a good deal for both parties. A sell on clause would be advisable.

I have no doubt about his ability, he has all the attributes to do well, still young and room for improvement. However, as i mentioned before he is totally untested at this level, and seeing as he is out of contract next summer we have to sell him now unless he is willing to sign a new deal. I know I am being picky but his only shocker of a game was home to Salford when he came up against Gaffney and Green, two seasoned league two strikers, and he was absolutely schooled and looked out of his depth.

The.club isnt self sufficient at the moment is it spen in the.sense of playing staff.

We have a couple who have broken through , we need a squad 65% home grown to.be self sufficient

35 % sold off for profit means lees money invested in to debt for the club by owners.

Assuming Orient grow your carrots and onions on Brisbane Re pitch, then where will they play football?

After a slow start to the season we certainly won't be getting £300k for him now.

Maybe we could buy low and get him to sign a new contract now and bet on him developing into a saleable asset in future.

I think Marvin still has the potential to come good. It’s his turn to take the flak tonight , on Saturday it was Josh Coulson people were moaning about . No doubt if Embleton recalls Dan Happe at Colchester he’ll be the cause of our woes. Unfortunately the euphoria and impetus of last seasons promotion has worn off already🙁
