248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
EFL TV rights: Clubs vote through record five-year coverage deal with Sky Sports https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65502322
This will mean a lot of our matches not being played at 3pm on a Saturday. And every Pizza cup match screened??
Just hope the extra money goes into making the clubs sustainable and not the players pockets.

Sounds like bad news for Orient if Sky take away the LOFC streaming platform.

It sounds like all the clubs will get something out of the pot and then the TV fees for those televised matches. How much will we get out of it, we'll never know? But it'll help the higher wages bill in L1.

Overall the deal is worth 50% more and there will be more L1 and L2 games on show than ever. Hopefully the money feeds into club infrastructure and not the players wages.

Re: 248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
Just actually read the article. Doesn’t come in until season after next. Keeping the blackout 3pm period which makes no sense to me if you’re just gonna bring games forward or push them back. Will mean more last minute changes for away fans trying to get 300 miles for a 12.30 kick off. Seems good for clubs accounts and casual tv fans but bad for fans who go to games

Re: 248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
There are only 552 matches in a league season. So nearly half of them won’t be at 3pm on a Saturday. Seems like a pretty big change. Better get used to getting up very early to get to Accrington or somewhere for 12:30

I reckon that the games will be spread over 3 days ( Sat Sunday and Monday evening ) This will have a major concern on season ticket holders

Edit: Sorry. Token's maths was correct. (insomnia posting is unwise)

Re: 248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
The arithmetic is 24 teams multiplied by 23 home matches = 552 matches
I presume the 248 will include all midweek matches, but it’s still a lot of weekend matches

Re: 248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
The BBC article says "Each season, Sky Sports will broadcast a minimum of <snip> 248 League One matches" - which is a big chunk of 552 total matches. As moonwalk says, match times are going to be all over the place.OTF Photography Ltd wrote: ↑Sun May 07, 2023 9:21 amAcross 3 leagues. Re: 248 Live League One Sky Matches a Season
Wonder if anyone will be going to watch live football in the future. Sky would be happy for games to be played behind locked doors and so, presumably, would clubs if the money is right.
Saves having to worry about stadium capacity and the huge costs of moving if you’re bridging the gap between income and outgoings by expanding TV coverage. It’s all about the money these days, more so than ever before.

Unfortunately gentlemen this is now the world we live in,it’s ever changing. Who knows perhaps in years to come they will all be on tv and just holograms of people sitting in the stand ? Still we won’t have to worry about moving into a bigger stadium. What ever happened to coats on the ground, mars bars in the pocket and rush goalies. Those were the days
