Most important goal of the season
I’m sure there’s plenty to choose from and potential nominees for this.
However the one that sticks out to me, was Moncur against Wimbledon at home. An extremely dogged performance, where we’d just come off the back of that poor run in January.
That goal I celebrated like mad. It was a huge relief and then kickstarted another incredible unbeaten run.
Feels crucial looking back

Carlisle at home. All the worldies we have scored this season, it took a double deflection to seal 3pts when others around us dropped points was huge.

How about 'non-goal'? That last-ditch save by Beckles vs Carlisle?

Our 1 - 0 win at home to Wimbledon. This came after two straight defeats and was the start of a great run. (I think Moncs scored)

True. I had to miss this game so it didn’t stick out but it really has to be doesn’t it

Re: Most important goal of the season
That whole week leading up to the Wimbledon game I had an uneasy feeling the whole season hinged on getting a win. Doubt was setting in amongst some of the fanbase and confidence looked low coming into it.
Was a massive result getting the win and clean sheet, never looked back from there on.

A few stick out.
Beckles at Stockport - I went loopy at turned round to other fans and said this is really happening isn’t it.
Theo and the parakeets
Has to be the Carlisle goal though.
That took the pressure off the next game at Salford and set us up nicely for the run in.

Re: Most important goal of the season
This would be my pick as well. Right in the middle of that bad run of form. Couldn't find a goal and Theo pops up with the best goal of the season. Crucial.
The deflection against Carlisle was important but we were almost home by that point.

The goal at home to Carlisle. In my opinion we sealed promotion that day. Ok, not mathematically, but it was an enormous win psychologically.
Funny really when you think of all the worldies scored this season but arguably the most important goal was an og!

Moncur v Wimbledon. Agree with the shouts for the Carlisle og but Monc's goal really felt like it gave us a shot in the arm and some belief after a sticky patch, especially against such a shithouse team.

Ed Turns' top corner against (memory fails) away, just when it seemed nothing was going to fall for us. That goal seemed to reinforce the feeling that we would not be denied.

Re: Most important goal of the season
I think the most celebrated goal of the season is to come on Sat.
Dan happe will return on Sat and he will score and Brizzy and everyone in it will go mental.

We were definitely not home at that point, if we hadn’t have won that day what followed would not have happened in my opinion

Re: Most important goal of the season
Has to be the Carlisle goal for me, I was listening to DD waiting for a flight home from Egypt. When that went in, apart from going mental, I really believed we were going to get promotion

We were on 73 points going into Carlisle. Stockport in 4th are only on 75 as I type. Drawing that game 0-0 would not have been a big deal. It would have felt like one to all us twitchy fans but in reality it was most important to stop Carlisle gaining ground, anything else was a bonus.
To be honest no one goal is that crucial in a league season. A cup run yes but the point of a league is that it is about the whole 46 games not one moment.
That said, if we have to pick one I still think the Donny goal was very important in stopping a blip becoming a slump, however even if we had drawn that game we are too good not to have pulled things round.

Akin to the feeling I had 18/19 when we won away at Wrexham ….

Yes I had that feeling as well, both Wrexham and Carlisle’s form dipped after the games.Orient_Man_And_Boy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 29, 2023 6:15 amAkin to the feeling I had 18/19 when we won away at Wrexham ….

Re: Most important goal of the season
I think our most defining goal was at home to Carlisle . In my opinion it was such an important goal ( win ) that it virtually clinched our promotion back to League 1.
