Did Richie Wellens reach legend status today?
What do you think? By pulling the club up from sinking, to the League 2 title in just over a year, I personally think it is merited.

Probably not quite worthy of a statue yet, but jeez he’s done a fantastic job these last 14 months.
I think he said his first game was at home to Rochdale ………we’ve come a long way since then.
Big credit to Kent, Nigel and Martin Ling for appointing him.

Re: Did willy Wellens reach legend status today?
He finished off what Justin started. The pair of them will, deservedly, go down in Orient history.
There really is a feeling of “job done” this evening. What began in 18/19 has now been completed.
It’s been a long journey which started with that 1-1 draw away at Salford back in August 2018.
I remember the first home game that season, a tues evening fixture against Ebbsfleet. I got there quite early and really did have a feeling that the next few years were going to be a ride, but one with an overall positive trajectory. I feel like this afternoon is the bookend of that era.
Onto the next chapter, which is establishing ourselves as a stable league 1 club for the short term.

I originally typed the headline as richie but some non-entity decides to be cool and has changed the name Willy or willy, probably trying to be funny. Not.

This board has been got at because you can't even type a name in now without someone or something renaming said person. The quality and integrity is going down fast.

If you look at Orient's history, you will see that we have not won many trophies. It is nice that we get promoted as Champions. It is a statement. After winning the title in the National League, it didn't take us too long to get out of the Bargain Basement. We need a little consolidation now & rein in expectations for a while. Need to work on the home fan's " atmosphere ". We need to enhance our fan base.

Anyone who gets us promoted gets automatic legend status, in my opinion.

Re: Did Richie Wellens reach legend status today?
Absolutely he did, any manager who wins a title at Orient is something special and to couple that with saving us from relegation too even more so.
We've been very fortunate to have found two top notch managers in JE and RW at the times we needed them most. When the club was sinking on the football field both have came in, galvanized the players and supporters then brought success winning league titles we perhaps didn't even dare dream of.

Re: Did Richie Wellens reach legend status today?
Some people asking today if he will stay.
I say he should, and take us to another title. Legend status would then be assured and we'd have to name a stand after him. He won't get that anywhere else.

Re: Did Richie Wellens reach legend status today?
In his post-match interview he made a few early hints that he might be open to offers. His interview on the EFL podcast gave similar vibes too.
I’m not quoting directly but he said two things in the post match interview, one along the lines of “remember we won’t all be at the club forever” and “I’ve now won two leagues so look at what I can do given the resources”.
On the podcast he made a valid point that clubs have no problem sacking managers at the turn of a hat but expect undying loyalty from managers the rest of the time.
If a championship club snaps him up with a financially sound deal and a chance for him to move closer to home then I say good luck to him. He deserves it.
Obviously I’d prefer if he stays.

Re: Did Richie Wellens reach legend status today?
This is my worry. So many managers that get a club promoted, leave before that club plays a match in the higher division they've just been promoted to. He would be so hard to replace, but he will be in demand because hes very good at what he does. Fingers crossed eh?
