Re: Ratings.
Thought Smyth had a great match throughout today.
I agree with Trump’s assessment of Moncur. He is gifted and at times looks unplayable to the opposition - but he lacks stamina and does seem to be overweight.
El Miz was also impressive throughout
Pratley’s cameo was awful - he obvs had an off day

100% agree, I have already said it, McCart was our best defender today, but some fans are blinkered and can’t admit when a player has played well.banqo wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 6:39 pmTotally agree, Sweeney was poor, Beckles was awful.Beradogs wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 6:33 pmMust have done. Mccart played well today. Or put it this way, he was miles better than Beccles and Sweeney.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 6:29 pm
You must have been watching a different McCart to the one I was watching .

Not yet seen Stadlier go pass a player. Neither does he defend when required. Not a player we should sign next seasonOTF Photography Ltd wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 5:41 pm Tough to mark as almost everyone was 8 or 9 first half and then we fell apart
Vigs - 5 - nothing to do first half. Spilt the ball when he should have held it in the lead up the their 2nd and distribution was shocking at times.
Hunt - 7 - linked up well with Smyth.
Beckles - 4 - completely lost his head second half which can’t happen. Wasn’t directly at fault for either goal I don’t think but he was making mistake after mistake, appealing for offside when he should have been defending etc…
Mccart - 6 - seemed pretty solid.
Sweeney - 5 - thought he was ok but poor header for their goal.
Brown - 4 - really like him but thought he had a bit of a shocker today.
El miz - 7 - different class most of the game
Moncur - 7.5 - best I’ve seen him first half but sort of disappeared
Smyth - 9 - unplayable. Created about 7 chances and could have scored a couple. Swapping wings didn’t suit him.
Sotiriou - 8 - 2 good goals. Caused their defence problems. A bit anonymous second half though
Sadlier - 6 - sorry, I don’t see it. In that first half, when everyone had all the space in the world he didn’t really do a lot. Useless when we have to dig in.
Subs:
Pratley - 4 - looked uncomfortable every time he had it
Kelman - 5 - couldn’t get a foothold but a great run and shot
James - 6 - a few quality balls. Still to lax defending.
Wellens - 6 - subs sort of made sense but it meant putting Smyth on the left with the bobbly pitch. He had the left back on toast. Got to take responsibility for the constant second half collapse. Don’t really know what happened but his ranting and raving on the sideline, whilst understandable, probably didn’t do much for calming the players down when they needed some leadership

Re: Ratings.
Can't argue with Ruel's goal return but got to think a proper centre forward gets on the end of one of those Smyth crosses across the 6 yard box of which there were many.
Vigs had no chance with the goals but he's far too slow to distribute the ball at times. Number of times he took an age to use the ball and then kicked a high ball to Smyth of all people. Woeful.
Smyth an absolute joy to watch in that first half. Be a long time until you see a LB get a roasting as bad as that. Shame he was hooked at half time and they managed to quiet Smyth's influence a bit from there.

My emotions today
The 1st half was a brand new shiny King Charles 50p piece and a family bag of kettle chips
The 2nd half was a screwed up out of date 10 bob note and a 5 day old open bag of monster munch
Oh well on to the next one
1 point closer to the winning line

Yeah, has some nice touches but doesn’t seem to be particularly pacey. Not sure about him on set pieces either.moonwalk19 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:49 pmNot yet seen Stadlier go pass a player. I've also been very polite and referred to McCart by his actual name twice in the post you've quoted, despite another Carthorse like performance again today.
McCart has clearly had a massive dose of nepotism thrown his way to get the start in football he's had. He's nice and tidy on the ball as you'd expect of anyone fortunate enough to have spent so much time in the Celtic Youth Academy, but it looks as if he shouldn't have been there.

Agree, we don't see to have anyone with that nous to sniff out the chances at the far post. Sadlier nowhere nearby either, he either seems to be playing at 50% of what he can do or just doesn't have it in him fitness wise.

Re: Ratings.
It was so frustrating that nobody was in the box on three occasions Smyth put the ball across the penalty area . They were all sitters . The one time a cross was met Ruel scored .

Would be interesting to see Os play ( dare I say it ? ) 4-4-2 with Ruel playing off a DECENT target man. I think it would work well.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 7:14 pmSlight correction if I may, our one and only striker that was played in the proper position is scoring again, and can anyone explain why our one and only striker is then moved to the wing and a player that couldn’t score in a brothel is then put up frontGreenwich Orient wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 6:53 pm Good news: strikers scoring goals again
Bad news: we were utter s*** in the second half and missed an opportunity to pull away from the playoffs.
Still, that first 45 minutes of football was an absolute joy. I still can’t believe Paul Smyth is playing League 2 football. That guy is absolutely unbelievable. Great to see Moncur starting to have the effect on games we all expected him to from the start of the season, too.

Re: Ratings.
Yes Sid I agree, however 4-4-2 is considered old fashioned now days but I do think Ruel would certainly benefit playing in a front two what ever the formation or system and deservedly to be played down the middle and not down the channels. Personally I couldn’t see Drinnan or Kelman scoring a goal like Ruel’s second or the first for that matter, there normally to busy backing into defenders. Why he put Kelman on up front and switched Ruel I’ll never know? Give it ten years and some bright spark from the FA coaching school will come along and reinvent the 4-4-2 and call it “The 4-4-2 plus”Sid Bishop wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 10:08 pmWould be interesting to see Os play ( dare I say it ? ) 4-4-2 with Ruel playing off a DECENT target man. Given his proven ability to score goals and the fact that (a) Kelman is not ours and (b) we are as good as up, I would be tempted to pick Ruel as our first choice for the remainder of this season and see if he can be developed to meet Ritchies exacting requirements.

Re: Ratings.
That's a fair point. In any case, Kelman looked a poor second choice yesterday - he hasn't got the presence of Drinnan, neither has he got the goals of Ruel, so he should be well down the pecking order.LittleMate wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:27 pm Given his proven ability to score goals and the fact that (a) Kelman is not ours and (b) we are as good as up, I would be tempted to pick Ruel as our first choice for the remainder of this season and see if he can be developed to meet Ritchies exacting requirements.
My natural stance in this would be to bring Drinnan back in, especially given the opposition on Saturday and play Ruel as one of the three behind him. But you're right, let's give him a proper run there and see what he does. (I still don't think it works - look at the second halves in both the last 2 games when the opposition realised if they pressed us, we couldn't get out - but he deserves his chance).

Re: Ratings.
Think what you have to take into account is that strikers need game time to get there sharpness up to speed plus RW keeps changing his position so he’s not getting settled in that particular position. It’s the same with Jordan Brown, he’s being asked to play in different positions. Give them both a run in there preferred positions and more game time. They will make mistakes but better to give them a run now while we have a buffer than next season which imo will be much much harderTRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:57 pmThat's a fair point. Yep, I could argue the case for Drinnan too but Sotirou has the place in the team right now and has done nothing wrong. By comparison Drinnan can't wait for the season to end. The fella can't buy a goal. As for the second half issue - we've had that pretty much all season and its not getting any better.TRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 12:57 pmThat's a fair point. Wellens will have to start Ruel - he can't not - and change him out for Drinnan if he does get beaten up as I expect to be the case.
