Ratings.

Post by Beradogs »

Have the commentators heard of the commentators curse. Laughing and joking about how it’s all so easy. Some other plum talking about 5-0. It’s not the first time. This is professional football. It’s not easy.
Vigouroux. 6. No chance with the goals. Distribution wasn’t great.
Hunt. 6. Great defender. Limited going forward.
Mccart. 7. Our best defender and had a really solid game. Strong in the air and decent on the ball. Some crunching tackles.
Beccles. 6. Nothing much to do aside from see the ball fly into the net. Twice.
Sweeney. 5.5. It’s probably his age and inexperience but when we start to panic he’s usually at the heart of it. Great player on a flat wicket. Needs to calm down when it gets on top.
El Miz. 6.5. Decent first half. Got bogged down along with everyone else in the second.
Brown. 6. Let our flair players play in the first half then started to get overrun in the second when our flair players stopped tracking back.
Moncor. 7 Joy to watch in the first half. Like a couple of our players, not happy when you have to dig in and defend.
Sadlier. 5.5. Another who hates it when he is going backwards rather than forwards.
Smyth. 7.5. First half was thrilling to watch. He must have put in 4 balls across the box that just required a tap in. Held up better than most in the second and always a threat.
Ruel MOM 7.5. Ruel can have MOM for 2 goals and general nuisance value.

Subs. 6.

Wellens. 6. Only the very best can play the beautiful game for the full 90 minutes week in and week out. We are not the very best, sometimes you have to scrap and fight and that’s an area we need to address before next season. It’s astonishing how quickly we can go from complete control to complete panic.

Harrogate. 6. Abysmal first half but some decent stuff in the second. RW will say it was another team with nothing to lose and hence why they could attack with abandon but it was more than that. Takes guts to face relegation from the football league away at the league leaders and continue to play.

Please please get rid of Dave Victor & co at the end of the season. They did similar in the previous game joking about how the opposition couldn't score from a corner et voila

Tough to mark as almost everyone was 8 or 9 first half and then we fell apart

Vigs - 5 - nothing to do first half. Spilt the ball when he should have held it in the lead up the their 2nd and distribution was shocking at times.

Hunt - 7 - linked up well with Smyth.
Beckles - 4 - completely lost his head second half which can’t happen. Wasn’t directly at fault for either goal I don’t think but he was making mistake after mistake, appealing for offside when he should have been defending etc…
Mccart - 6 - seemed pretty solid.
Sweeney - 5 - thought he was ok but poor header for their goal.

Brown - 4 - really like him but thought he had a bit of a shocker today.
El miz - 7 - different class most of the game
Moncur - 7.5 - best I’ve seen him first half but sort of disappeared

Smyth - 9 - unplayable. Created about 7 chances and could have scored a couple. Swapping wings didn’t suit him.
Sotiriou - 8 - 2 good goals. Caused their defence problems. A bit anonymous second half though
Sadlier - 6 - sorry, I don’t see it. In that first half, when everyone had all the space in the world he didn’t really do a lot. Useless when we have to dig in.

Subs:
Pratley - 4 - looked uncomfortable every time he had it
Kelman - 5 - couldn’t get a foothold but a great run and shot
James - 6 - a few quality balls. Still to lax defending.

Wellens - 6 - subs sort of made sense but it meant putting Smyth on the left with the bobbly pitch. He had the left back on toast. Got to take responsibility for the constant second half collapse. Don’t really know what happened but his ranting and raving on the sideline, whilst understandable, probably didn’t do much for calming the players down when they needed some leadership

Good ratings Beradogs, it’s strange that nobody played that badly just a poor result, however I don’t like the way Beccles try’s to play so casually because Bobby Moore he ain’t,and sooner or later will get caught out, and as much as Sweeny has improved he can’t cross a decent ball🙊

Yes. Agree. I probably marked Beccles too highly. In the last minute he seemed to completely stop chasing a ball down the line. What was that all about.

McCart gave away a free kick with a needless and latent obstruction - they scored from the free kick and we went into panic mode afterwards.
So, giving him such a high mark is ridiculous

Thought I'd imagined seeing that reading the positive ratings. Basically was OK until Harrogate mounted any kind of attacking threat then panic mode

Good news: strikers scoring goals again

Bad news: we were utter s*** in the second half and missed an opportunity to pull away from the playoffs.

Still, that first 45 minutes of football was an absolute joy. I still can’t believe Paul Smyth is playing League 2 football. That guy is absolutely unbelievable. Great to see Moncur starting to have the effect on games we all expected him to from the start of the season, too.

Nonsense. Fans are entitled to have some fun when they are about to win the league. If we followed your rules nobody would ever sing at all.

Impossible to put up a meaningful set of ratings after that. The first 45 minutes was brilliant. You have to remind yourself you're watching Orient playing division 4 football at times, we could have had 5. The second 45 was nothing of the sort.

Main observations:

Moncur can joke about his gut all he likes if he plays for a whole game like he did in the first half. But yet again he goes missing after the break because he's carrying around a stone - stone a half excess flab and is shagged. That's not acceptable for a professional footballer.

McCarthorse is not a L2 standard defender. Richie keeps saying how brilliant he looks in training pinging the ball around from the back and I bet he does when everyone else is holding back and only operating at 80%. But as soon as you put him into a proper competitive environment, he comes up massively short. I feel so sorry and disappointed for both Thompson and Ogie.

I don't know what to do with Ruel. He has to play just because of his ridiculous habit of scoring goals, but he can't play the front man on his own and he's not a wide man either. He needs to be in a pair, or could arguably play as a really offensive 10, but needs a much more creative 8 than Pratley or Clay in behind him.

Finally, the pricks that booed at the end can do one.

Slight correction if I may, our one and only striker that was played in the proper position is scoring again, and can anyone explain why our one and only striker is then moved to the wing and a player that couldn’t score in a brothel is then put up front🤷‍♀️🙊

Bizarre to say Ruel can’t play on his own after scoring two goals in the first 45 mins.

I do agree that Beckles and Sweeney had below par performances today. I am not saying McCart was worse than them but from my view of the game he certainly wasn’t better and definitely not worthy of the mark usually reliable Mr Beradogs awarded him.

Ruel is by far the best finisher we have at the club, which is why we have to find a way to get him into the starting XI.

It's all well and good in the first half, as it was at Salford, when the opposition give us way too much respect, sit right back off us and allow us to play out from the back and through the lines. But as soon as they put it on us, press high and stop us playing out, we have no long option.

I am not saying McCart was worse than them but from my view of the game he certainly wasn’t better and definitely not worthy of the mark usually reliable Mr Beradogs awarded him.
Literally no idea why Bera would have marked Sweeney and Beckles lower than McCarthorse.

Sweeney was massively at fault with that header back into the danger zone for one of their goals, but was otherwise sound defensively and decent going forward.
