Where do you live & How did you start to support the O's

Post by aylesburyos »

Thought I would see how many of us are based in or out of London? Me born St Georges Road E10 (less than 5 mins walk to Brissy) but brought up in Aylesbury. Dad took me to see local teams Oxford & Luton & didn't connect but at the age of 10 took me to see the O's & supported ever since.

Grew up in Essex, Dad took me to Spurs a couple of times but he wasn't a regular and I'd decided to support someone else anyway just to be awkward. One day I chose to follow the loser of the live ITV game between Man Utd and Arsenal in 89 or something, Arsenal won so I went with Utd. Big fan for the first part of the 90s (before every other bugger in the South East supported them, honest) but wanted to see live football.

Best mate at school used to go to Os with his Dad so I tagged along one week, first game was in Feb 1994. Instantly hooked and despite my first proper season seeing a spectacularly bad relegation side, been going ever since.

Currently living the closest I ever have to Orient in Blackhorse Road, love that they're genuinely my local side.

Lived in Albert Rd as a kid (now mid Essex) and was taken along to the Os for my 9th birthday by my cousin - with me out of the way, the family all gathered at home for a surprise party.
We got a sneaky upgrade into the East Stand ( no names coz the employee still works there. )

So, at Sutton in two weeks, that’s exactly 56 years and I’ve never watched a live game unless the Os are involved …. here my account-name on these chat forums.

C’mon you Os!!

Born in and still lives in god's own country Yorkshire, when Doncaster rovers got rid of their best player to Orient in 1977 Peter Kitchen, I decided to follow him, what a player he was and don't we need him now.

I was born in Wanstead Hospital more than 60 years ago & lived in Leytonstone near Cann Hall Rd. My late dad was a huge O's fan & is solely to blame for my love of & obsession with this club.
I went to Cardiff Uni in the late 90's to train for a legal career & have been an exile ever since.
The O's sometimes do my head in but have largely given me great joy this season.
I'm looking forward to a personal expose in Panda of all the troublemakers & ungrateful wretches on this Forum with hopefully many of them then being intimidated on line.

Born in Reading, raised in Upper Clapton. Friends and myself were playing in the flats playground one Saturday, when a man's voice shouted "come on we're going to football". My friend asked his dad if l could go as well. My mum said l could go, and, as they say, the rest is history, and that was 66 years ago. :lofc:

T'was Good Friday ( April 8th), 1966. My Dad had a row with my Mum, and he wanted to get away from her, so he said to 15 yr old me, " do you want to go to football"
" Who's playing", said I
" We can go to watch Orient" replies my dad
So we did, and of course I was hooked. We played Ipswich that day and got beat 1-4, but i was hooked and supported the club ever since.

Moved to London in 1987. Flat was in Melford Road so it was easy to walk over to the ground via the Northcote of a Saturday afternoon.

Initially went to confirm my theory about the poor quality of Div 4 football and I wasn't disappointed. Having confirmed that supporting my local team would lead to a life of misery and despair I couldn't sign up quick enough.

To be honest they are my third team after Johnstone Burgh and Motherwell.

Whole family supported them so despite growing up the other side of London, had little choice. Got properly suckered in once I was mascot and met childhood heroes Matty Lockwood and Amara Simba.

Now effectively a local, which unfortunately means I have less of an excuse to skip games.

Moved into a flat in Markhouse Rd in 1987 so a nice easy walk (usually via The Antelope) to the ground. Got hooked, in large part due to the magic of Alan Comfort and started going regularly. Back in Scotland now but still get to games when I can and support the club financially as much as I can. Dundee FC are my first love though.

I live in Pembrokeshire now, and this is going to be my first season since 1974 that I haven’t attended one O’s match. And I don’t enjoy the live streaming service, so am pretty semi-detached now. Maybe I’ll get to a game next season.
