Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
This is how I see it panning out.
First, The BBC is in a mess NOT of its own creation. I believe the government " forced" them to take this course of action, to satisfy the 'bloodlust' of the extreme right, both in the Conservative Party, and those outside the Tory Party that may be woo'd to vote Tory in next years GE.
A deal will be worked out, whereby the BBC can back down, without appearing to back down.
Davie will come out with a statement of the " We have talked this through, and Gary has accepted his responsibilities as a broadcaster blah blah blah, etc etc.
In reality, Gary will not have accepted any such thing, and will continue to voice his opinions, after maybe a 2 or 3 week gap.
Gary Lineker and the others are broadcasting gold, and the BBC know it, theyll want him back make no mistake.
The right will then throw a strop for a few days, after which things will resume as they were

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
I think all this is a storm in a teacup . Lineker doesn't work presenting the news , he's only a football host . Everybody is entitled to their opinion and if you don't like what he say's simply don't listen to him . Thousands agree with him and thousands don't . Personally speaking I couldn't give a toss what he say's one way or another . I just don't care . I only watch him on TV presenting football shows . If I didn't like him I would simply switch tv channels . The BBC has over reacted and have now dug themselves into a nice big hole .

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
is your post about football then.Wally Banter wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 6:57 amAgreed. It’s only a shame that we can’t go back and cancel Mohammed Ali and Jesse Owens for their political nonsense.
Still, you can do your bit and stop posting your regular links about how the country is going down the pan on this football forum, can’t you. Show us how it’s done.

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
I tell you what, they won't have an extra 500,000 viewers next week if it's in the same format.
You don't realise just how much the commentators and pundits add to the show until they've gone.

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
“Much shorter show that’s at the centre of the biggest sh*t storm of the day gets extra viewers”, but of course idiots will be saying “wow guess the analysts aren’t needed!”

Good , sanity has returned to the BBC . Does this now mean we can look forward to a proper edition of MOTD tonight ?

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
Looks like I'm the only one who always records MOTD and fast forwards through the clunge pundits to watch the actual footie.
Didn't watch it this week as I'm not a scab and never will be.

The noises from the BBC, including the cringey “we’re in listening mode” comment, suggests that they’re looking for a way out. I would expect they recognise that the only real way of getting out of this self inflicted situation is to publicly recognise that the Lineker incident has highlighted their own issues, and that they will tighten up/review impartiality where it matters, and abandon the idea that they can or should control speech where it doesn’t. I suspect all Lineker will be asked to do is to add “views my own” on his Twitter

Sorted! Seems Beeb has indulged in a massive climb-down, with a bit of face saving support from Lineker.

Good friends have met him and he is just like that in real life. Smug, selfcentred, rude tw*t.

Anyway. The right have won so many battles over the last few years it’s only fair you win one. Well done. Congratulations.

You can kind of understand that when you've played for Barcelona, captained your country, won the golden boot and so on.
What's your excuse?

Re: Beeb Gags Lineker
Analysts? Charmless gits like Alan Shearer and Ian Wright churning out the same old cliches week in, week out. " Shocking defending there, you just can't give him that much space. The full back really has to close him down much quicker than that" Do they ever say anything that is actually informative or remotely interesting?
