Re: Well, That Will Give Her Some Relief!
I am not concerned, in this respect, what other countries do. A prisoner costs around £50k per annum, murderers more perhaps, if a life sentence is say 20 years then a murderer costs £1million to keep in prison. So I see the death penalty as both deserved an economically sound. There appears to be around 6000 murderers in prison, so there is a cost of around £300million per annum. The Mindsweep wrote: ↑Tue Mar 07, 2023 10:29 pmHave a look at the countries that currently have the death penalty. Do you seriously believe its a good idea to be aligned with them.
However I wouldn't necessarily execute all murderers. I see a difference between eg a child killer (execute) and a gang murder where both victim and murderer know the potential score

I did read about this apparent miscarriage of justice, I just didn't see any point in opening a case that was 100 years ago. Of course, it is incredibly sad for the lady concerned but who will bear the cost, and who will benefit, the lawyers no doubt.Friend or faux wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:21 am Harlow obviously didn't want to bother reading about this awful, awful miscarriage of justice, which happened locally. Obviously felt it would interfere with his toxic, prejudiced viewpoint.
Perhaps you would also care to explain why my views are toxic and prejudiced in more detail

You know when you took me to task for maintaining I’m OK with the idea that you can be put in prison, and used a miscarriage of justice to argue against it? That implies you don’t agree with any incarceration

The price for democracy has involved innocent people suffering and even dying. Take WW2, millions of people died to beat the Nazis

You are tedious with your attempts to belittle & besmirch others. Just accept sometimes you lose & it will be easier for you to deal with

Would you be happy with a 9 out of 10 'success rate' in terms of correct death penalty convictions?

Harlow:- Couldn't see the point of this case being re-opened. Now, as Edith Thompson was hung 100 years ago, perhaps to some, this looks like the distant murky past. But I am pretty sure, that I have read, that she has near relatives still around ( possibly siblings or cousins ). This is feasible as my mum was born just ten years after Edith, and I am still around. Edith was the eldest of five children
She came from a respectable family, the grand daughter of a policeman. Rather than being involved in the murder, she was a witness to it and in fact was knocked to the ground during the altercation, heard to be saying: Oh don't, oh don't !
This must have been deemed a terrible disgrace on the family, plus an awful lot of distressing information was brought up at her trial. If you read about it. It is truly sickening and smacks of misogyny.

“Lol so you’re ok with the idea of prison in society, even if it means YOU might go to one if you’re suspected and charged with a crime?”

Tuffers:

PJ
“So you don’t agree with prisons?”
Tuffers:
“Where did you get that idea?”
