So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
Obviously heard Ross say we are looking to strengthen but wasn't exactly confident in his answer.
A midfielder and striker were mentioned, but we had a defender on trial last week.
Are we expecting people to leave before we bring these in?
At what point do we do it? We've had 2 months where we've known the situation.
There's 9 days until the season start and these new players will have to get to the know the group, the tactics, the style of play and potentially get up to match speed. Get a move on lads.

Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
I know we are all being respectful due to the tragic loss of Justin but we are behind the 8 ball and do have big gaps in the squad which we had last year as well but have not rectified but we’re quick enough with selling our prized assets as already done deals and tbh same with our two Fwds and Wright but we need more - we have a good excuse but come start of the season we are short of numbers and no pre season with any late arrivals and key injuries - playing high risk as think we may struggle with what we have unfortunately..

Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
Like to think that behind the scenes we are being proactive in the transfer market, funds should be available after Bonne and Koroma were sold even after paying fees for Wilkinson and Angol, there are also dozens of out of contract players available who could enhance our starting eleven. You would like to think that the squad will be in place by August 3rd, I thought Embleton answer about transfers to DV was a bit non commital.
I think appointing from within was exactly the right thing to do when Justin passed but Embleton has to assert himself as manager and if that means standing up to Ling to get what he needs that's what he has to do. Justin selected the players he wanted and left it to the DoF to get them, Ross needs to do the same.
Important few days coming up that could help shape our season.

If we start the new season with these gaps still showing then questions will need to be asked .

Why would you join a club with a load of people interim in charge?

90% of clubs positions are always interim as managers last under 2 years on average.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:29 pm Why would you join a club with a load of people interim in charge?

I know I'm impatient but I think you edge me on that character trait. You've said it all for me. Another day or two and I would be making the same post. Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
I don't think we'll sign anyone in time for Cheltenham; if we do it'll be only a bit-part signing like Michael Chambers.
We have enough players despite injuries, whether it'll be good enough may become apparent after some proper games.
Most if not all of the starting line-up for the first game is already nailed down if the player is fit.
Brill, Ling, Happe, Coulson, Ekpiteta, Widdowson, Wright, Clay, JMD, Angol, Wilkinson, I would be surprised if any of these missed out for any reason apart from injury.
It's a relatively gentle start to the season minus Mansfield and Salford away (who I think are better than us now) so if we start the season on a poor run I would expect the purse-strings to be eased and good players to be signed.
A decision on Ross I think would have to be done by December. If we are in trouble the new man needs time, money and a transfer window. If we are not, I would hope that the 'Interim' tag vanishes.

Dont forget, we are more limited this season with the transfer window and loan windows. Not sure the rules on signing free agents though.

Only inpatient because of the points I made above. I'll be more than happy if new players come in, even if its the day before the first game. But there are disadvantages for those players with every day that passes.koppio wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:36 pmI know I'm impatient but I think you edge me on that character trait. Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
You are right but I think the average young footballer does not have the sort of perception that you have. I agree with Biggsy. Our current "INTERIM" set-up is not a "good look". Some players, who have more than 1 offer on the table and whoStill's Carenae wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:35 pm90% of clubs positions are always interim as managers last under 2 years on average.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:29 pm Why would you join a club with a load of people interim in charge?
value their perceived relationship with their new "gaffer", are likely to be put off.

I know a lot of people might disagree with me but I still believe we should have brought back Russell Slade . I think he has the experience and bubbly character that we're going to need right now .BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:29 pm Why would you join a club with a load of people interim in charge?

Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
Agree with others on here, the "interim" label is probably really damaging.
Imagine you're a player with a couple of options on the table, one of which is an offer from an "interim" manager. You're probably thinking, what if this guy is gone in 6 weeks and the new gaffa doesn't see me in his plans. I'll spend a season on the bench.
I understand that no manager job is permanent, and this could happen to any player signing for any manager, but the risk must appear much higher with that word "interim" looming overhead.

Re: So Are We Actually Signing Anyone?
A high proportion of transfers are completed in the final few days of transfer windows and whilst this is not ideal it’s just the way of things nowadays as players ( and their agents!) hold out for bigger and better deals. I’m sure a couple of new faces will be brought in before the big kick off

Sure, transfers in and out. Odd trialist vs Bishops Stortford in a position we seem OK in. Cover for a leaver? I hope not.redintheface wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 1:26 pm A high proportion of transfers are completed in the final few days of transfer windows and whilst this is not ideal it’s just the way of things nowadays as players ( and their agents!) hold out for bigger and better deals. I think there have been enough vibes from the club to suggest new faces before kick off. With our starting 11 already pretty much set the issue is with the bench to start with. Not too many options when the sh*t hits the fan, which it will. Vulnerable to injuries as we can see now. Ross to be fair don’t have a lot of options

All clubs are vulnerable to injuries suspensions etc etc also if you look a bit more into League 2 you will see many clubs are according to their fans not ready weak benches etc etc
People writing us off before we have kicked a ball is quite frankly ridiculous

Nobody is writing us off, certainly not me where I expect a decent mid table position. But it is not panic stations to consider who we have on the bench and what options Ross may have at his disposal during a game, to either keep what the team have earned or perhaps to help chase when we are losing.
Forward thinking. You should try it and stop acting like a child.
Oh and I don’t give a monkeys about other L2 clubs.

Us grown ups will continue to debate the various scenarios, think about what may and indeed may not happen. None of us have a crystal ball. It’s called debate, discussion you choose. Your only objective it seems is to act the smart arse and it gets hugely boring. So bore off.
