Entry of the Gladiators

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
Thanks fellas. So it would appear that it was Keith Simpson who was responsible. I've been supporting the Os since the 60s, but have never heard of him. It's a great tune though, because it's so 'unfootbally' and, therefore, so Leyton Orient.
I remember Hearn tried to change it to We will Rock you. This was a great song, but not unique enough.

I believe Kieth was tannoy announcer before he became Safety officer , i worked as a steward under Kieth and Chris Newson , both lovely men who sadly are no longer with us βΉtuffers#1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 2:46 pmI have 2 people in my mind about keith simpson & i cant distinguish which 1 he was anymore .DEFCON 1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 10:46 am I only recall hearing Entrance of the Gladiators on one occasion, and it really did seem to herald 'bring on the clowns', I remember us having a laugh about it at the time. It's hard to imagine a more inappropriately named tune.
I'm pretty sure it was indeed Keith Simpson who started up Tijuana Taxi.

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
It was Keith Simpson on the tannoy as an announcer who played it regular. The reason? knowing us it was the only record we had and couldn't afford to buy another, allegedlytuffers#1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 2:46 pmI have 2 people in my mind about keith simpson & i cant distinguish which 1 he was anymore .DEFCON 1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 10:46 am I only recall hearing Entrance of the Gladiators on one occasion, and it really did seem to herald 'bring on the clowns', I remember us having a laugh about it at the time. Kieth looked nothing like lofty , he was bigger and had a bald head if i remember rightly .tuffers#1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 5:27 pmI was pretty sure thats who keith was , now im just seeing the face of the fella who sat in theBIGRON wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 3:01 pmI believe Kieth was tannoy announcer before he became Safety officer , i worked as a steward under Kieth and Chris Newson , both lovely men who sadly are no longer with us βΉtuffers#1 wrote: βTue Jul 23, 2019 2:46 pm

2 people morphed into 1 in my head .
Keith who was the announcer & the other fella whose name i should know as he was a
Long standing season ticket holder .
Keith had to walk past me to get into the announcers box back of the east stand for the 3 or 4 seasons
We had them.
The other chap was a fan who would start the ORIENT chant .
He looked like a mix of lofty & fred dinage
Tall longish face slightly balding slimmish bloke 40 -50 odd back then.
