Entry of the Gladiators
Back in the day, the Orient team walked on to ”Entry of the Gladiators “
Less appropriately it was also played after the match but this time in it’s entirety. Quite a long piece in several movements. Nowadays it’s one of the most popular theme tunes for circus clowns. We should have revived it during Beccheti’s tenure.
All Premier clubs have their music.
Some of the better ones.
Newcastle - “Going Home” by Mark Knopfler. Quite likeable.
Man.United -“This is the One” by Stone Roses a little strange.
Crystal Palace – “Glad All Over” by Dave Clark Five.
Man City – “Blue Moon” filched from Crewe Alexandra.
Brighton – “Sussex by the Sea”. Geographically correct but not original. Also played at Eastbourne Speedway and County cricket matches.
Leicester – “The Posthorn Gallop” has been in use for over 80 years.
West Ham – “Blowing Bubbles”. Quite iconic and has been around even longer than Leicester’s music. It’s been in use use since the 1920’s.
In the EFL, Bristol City have got their own song by the Wurzels. This they adapted from their song “Morning Glory”.
“One for the Bristol City,
Two for the boys in red,
Three for the fans down Ashton Gate.
We’ll follow ‘till we’re dead me boys,
Follow ‘till we’re dead ”.
Anyone know if any other EFL club has got their own song?

Interesting stuff
I just have one little alteration for you
At the Amex Brighton actually come onto the pitch with a super mix of music by Fat Boy Slim which does in fact feature Sussex By The Sea

Chelsea come out to the Liquidator. They were doing that in 1966 when I first started following them.

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
Am I imaging it or do some clubs belt out some music when they score. Is this permitted?

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
Should be claiming writing royalties on it as well, since Harry J Allstars didn’t record it until 1969! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Liq ... trumental)West Side Story wrote: ↑Mon Jul 22, 2019 10:24 pm Chelsea come out to the Liquidator. Wolves and WBA have used it as well.
Re: Entry of the Gladiators
Does anyone know why we enter the pitch to Tijuana Taxi? How did this come about?

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
As old age takes its toll I must be losing it as I am certain that we came on not to the entrance of the gladiators but to the dam buster theme, which is somewhat similar.
Re: Entry of the Gladiators
I only recall hearing Entrance of the Gladiators on one occasion, and it really did seem to herald 'bring on the clowns', I remember us having a laugh about it at the time. It's hard to imagine a more inappropriately named tune.
I'm pretty sure it was indeed Keith Simpson who started up Tijuana Taxi.

Seem to think that Sheff Utd come out to the Star Wars theme tune...and someone else does too.
Bradford came out to a Bradford based version of Take Me Home, Country Roads.

I don't think you've lost it red, but I don't think we ever came out to the dam buster theme.

Re: Entry of the Gladiators
Sheffield United is Annie's Song - John Denver, but theyve adapted it with words of their own. It gets played just as they're about to kick off if I remember correctly?Apple Wumble wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 11:26 am Seem to think that Sheff Utd come out to the Star Wars theme tune...and someone else does too.

Also known as 'You fill up my senses'. They cut the sound on kick off and the crowd carry it on for a few lines.kokomO wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2019 2:00 pmSheffield United is Annie's Song - John Denver, but theyve adapted it with words of their own. Re: Entry of the Gladiators
When Hearn first took over and tried to inject his tacky razzmatazz ideas (ditching Taxi in the process), there was often a volley of the Entry of The Gladiators tune from the terraces whenever Holland’s Heroes messed up yet another passage of play in the clown-like way that was their speciality.
