We're top of the league ( till Tuesday), and we shouldnt be bringing in cheapo signings like this. We should be bringing in decent quality players. You dont get promotion with boys, rejects, and sicknotes. Harsh but true.
Hard to take for most fans, but this is true, if we're being really honest.
Remember, so far, a well off club, with about 10 multi millionaires as board members, that are being sponsored by about 30 sponsers, havent spent a single penny in this window, not a single penny!

Stockports Billionaire Owner pays out of his own pocket , most club owners do so. Then make up creative ways to bring finance in. Long gone are the days gate money covers player wages .

Re: Not a Single Penny Spent ( so far)
You implied no one does, but they do and there are other clubs who make reasonably small controlable losses - Being a London club and not owning our ground means we have heavy costs to take into account so I doubt unless we move and start getting 15,000 crowds fairly regularly we are not going to make profits - the club has an ambitious goal to break even. You constantly moan and bitch about not spending money but this board have spent a lot on the ground in the last two years (roof, floodlights etc) and are putting in a new deso pitch in the summer - not cheap, They would already have had to make money available for the Three players that have signed this month. If you expecting us to go out and spend 2 or 300 £thousand on players this month you are as ever living in cloud Cuckoo land. We are in a great position and theres no reason with the squad we have why we can't go on and finish the job.
We have fantastic owners and I trust them, Lingy and Wellens to get it right.

Interesting topic.
the most recent accounts for Walsall show they would have made a loss of circa £600,000 if it were not for furlough payments from the government. That is in accounts to May 2021. In the year prior to that ( to May 2020), they would also have made a loss if it were not for furlough payments

Re: Not a Single Penny Spent ( so far)
I’d rather we didn’t spend two or three hundred thousand on players ever. There’s no need to pay transfer fees in this day and age at this level.
The three hundred thousand we allegedly spent in the summer could and should have been spent on wages for more, better players.

They have made a profit 15 years running. The furlough payment basically replaced lost income like every other legit business that took them.

So they did receive furlough payments and did in fact make profits in the years mentioned?
Glad we’ve cleared up that they are an example of a profitable club.

They have run the club prudently and sold the odd player and own their ground I believe - I think they also ran/run a successful sunday market which gives them additional income, they now have a wealthy investor so be interesting to see how they go.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 11:25 amDoes anybody know how Walsall made those profits ?Top of the JES wrote: ↑Mon Jan 23, 2023 9:12 am They have made a profit 15 years running. The extract from the notes to their accounts shows turnover (the furlough money was shown as a separate line in the P&L)
Match receipts were only about 1/10 of their other Football & Commercial Income, I am guessing the football income here includes sales of players, but its not clear

Looking forward to reading your convoluted critiques of every element of his performances for the remainder of the season similar to how we have had to endure with Clay and Ling jnr in the recent past.
Well done.
My point is with spending £300k on a 30 year old with no resale value for a club of our size is f*cking insane.
I didn’t really rate Coleman from the little we saw of him but at least the concept of paying £80k for a young non-league prospect who can be developed and sold on makes sense.
If we’d waited until George was out of contract, no problem, sign him up. But we’ve just spent the equivalent of a really good new signings wages for 2 years for no reason.

I have no evidence obviously. I'm just quoting what was generally accepted as being the transfer fee on here at the time he signed.
I really hope we didn't.
