I watched the Stormzy one and that northern emo kid, they were both great, but that's it.

No interest in those as I've no idea who they are. Watched Rita Ora and that was dull enough. Judi Dench one was okay.

I've got PSVR. Love it but doesnt look like the tech is quite taking off.

Louis Theroux interviews Bear Grylls- found his macho claims quite entertaining, one was that he hasnt farted in years.

I really enjoyed it for the first month or so, but it’s too much of a faff. Weirdly for something involving putting on a helmet and going into a virtual environment, it’s much more fun with mates

Mary Poppins Returns

Despite coming out in 2018, I'd completely avoided this one as I'm wary of the various Disney cash-ins, pointless sequels and remakes. But, having watched this last night, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it was... erm, rather good.

It’s faithful to the mood and style of the original and doesn’t disrespect the audience’s intelligence. It also avoids cliched tropes, frequently relied upon in other modern sequel/remakes, that inauthentically pander to “modern audiences” as a substitute for actual skill and creativity.

It is also not afraid to deal with some tragic events and doesn’t pull any punches with dealing with childhood trauma. For a family film, there’s no sugar-coating of the pill here. The message is very much; “kids, life can be pretty sh*t sometimes, and part of growing up is learning how to deal with that – even without any trigger warnings!”

The musical numbers are well done, including one in particular that will have most parents finding their eyes watering. Characters are well written with believable development arcs. The plot moves along at a decent pace, and doesn’t slip down any blind alleys.

I think it was seen as a bit of a box office flop. While it was never going to outshine the 1964 original, it stands up for itself and is much more than just a nostalgia-fest. If it had been made shortly after the original, I suspect it would be seen as a classic in its own right.

If you’re looking for a film to watch that works for all ages in the family - I recommend.

PSVR. Bought most of the popular games in the year or two after release, & a few indies. Headmaster probably my favourite

I've really enjoyed Astrobot, Doom VFR and Blood and Truth.

Last night's movie choice was "The Menu".

Thoroughly superb satirical look at the whole superchef nonsense. Great cast - including Anya Taylor-Joy. Really funny and original. Recommended.

Was toying with watching The Menu yesterday, but we opted for the Stonehouse series on ITV instead. Decent for-telly drama that retells the absolutely bonkers story of Labour MP/Minister, John Stonehouse in the 70s. I had to look him up afterwards just to reality-check the story as it was so unbelievable. But it was true.
