Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
That's the other position to recruit for, there's not really an alternative creative CM in the squad. Initially Smyth doing that looked an OK option but he's too important attacking to be movedessexfootball wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:57 pm Feel sorry for El Miz when Moncur goes off and he gets shoehorned into that role, it's totally not his game

I prefer him as the 6 but he can, happily, play the 8 or 10 as well, no problem.

This. In fact, Ling said they weren’t sure how well he’d do as a 6 because he’d played as an 8 or 10 previously.TRUMP Plumbing wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:07 pmIt totally is his game.essexfootball wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 9:57 pm Feel sorry for El Miz when Moncur goes off and he gets shoehorned into that role, it's totally not his game

Shame for him as he had a good game. Wasn’t a bad choice, but just badly executed

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Going by the team announced pre-match, I think RW was happy with a point. But lose at Northampton that be 2 points out of a possible 6. Stevenage going much better, No way will we end up Champions. That is a bad attitude

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
We're not going to play well in every game .I'm sure Stevenage will have some disappointing results as well before the season is over . My main concern is we stay as far as possible ahead of the team in 4th place . The one thing for sure though is we're going to need to play better against Northampton on Monday or we'll lose .corkeireorient wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:11 pm If this form continues , i see Stevenage top by 5pm Jan;21st !

While going up as champions would be lovely I'd settle for just automatic promotion .Friend or faux wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:17 pm Going by the team announced pre-match, I think RW was happy with a point. Interesting to see the doomongers are out in force tonight trying to turn it into something it isn’t….. Saddo’s
Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
A poor performance with a poor side closing us down every time. Trying to be sure of scoring meant we didn't score and never really looked like it. Not the end of the world or the season.

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Not a good point against a team almost 30 points behind us, but it’s another point. Stevenage were always going to win tonight, Crawley are self-imploding right now. But it does make Monday’s game pretty crucial now.

He overhit the pass, it happens.
How many times have you seen Moncur burst through the back line like that to pick up a pass? None is the answer you’re looking for.
It’s kind of irrelevant, as El Miz has to be our 6 and I agree we need another 10 to challenge Moncur, but just had to point out you’re chatting $hit.

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
I said I would be happy with 3 points from the 2 away games , I wouldn't be overly disappointed if we got a draw on Monday but obviously would like the win , if we blow it Monday the 2 home games following would be must win games

You said it. 15 clean sheets out of 23, lost twice in 23. I would like to know what expectations these people had on July 30th.B.whitehouse+10more wrote: ↑Fri Dec 30, 2022 10:31 pm Interesting to see the doomongers are out in force tonight trying to turn it into something it isn’t….. Saddo’s

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Absolutely right - 2 draws from 2 tricky games (after 4 straight wins on the bounce) and some people seem to have forgotten we’re 5 points clear of 2nd place and what, 14 clear of the all important 4th?
It’s ridiculous.
It’s ridiculous.

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Our run of games through Jan/Feb are quite tough & will take us to our 2nd group of "15 games " as stated by RW . March & april is where we will be in our strongest position12 points puts us at 65 & if we are there by the beginning of march , the get the champers on Ice for HMS P!55 THE LEAGUE !

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Fact of the matter is we haven't been playing like a top of the table side for a while now. There's a problem with scoring and creating chances, let's face it. When we get forward the expectation of scoring is not there like it was. I think even RW is still unsure as to what our best attacking formation is with the players he has at his disposal. A bit of a worry this.

To put things into perspective, after 23 games, our great 1955/56 team would have been 8 points behind us on 45 points, so we're doing exceptionally well.

I think you're are forgetting about that back then it was only 2 points for a win whereas today its 3 points.Neptune's Spear wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 12:38 am To put things into perspective, after 23 games, our great 1955/56 team would have been 8 points behind us on 45 points, so we're doing exceptionally well.

Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
Yes I agree, but we were never going to go through the whole season without a minor wobble of some sort, and we are still picking up points. I'd say only Happe and Brown came out of that with any sort of credit - a bad day at the office for pretty much everyone else. We'll need to up our game against Northampton for sure. I'd like to have seen Duke-McKenna given a chance yesterday, he's looked decent in his brief cameos so far.Chief crazy horse wrote: ↑Sat Dec 31, 2022 12:25 am Fact of the matter is we haven't been playing like a top of the table side for a while now. Re: Exiles thread - Newport (A)
I would like to see a bit more creativity and be less reliant on keeping possession all the time. Often we have players in good positions but choose to play backwards to keep possession but the chance is lost and the opposition has time to re-group.
It seems like that in modern football, not just at Orient.
It shows how much we miss Smyth when last night so few chances were created.
