The most shocking thing is that it's only a 15 certificate. The sheer amount of swearing, violence and gore is more than what I would expect in an 18.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Sun Dec 04, 2022 2:43 pmSaw the trailer, looks great fun. First thought was Die Hard too

Saw it, enjoyed it, but wanted more b movie lines and gags. The family should have featured more. 7.5/10

Finished S1 of Slow Horses the other day - liked it a lot (Gary Oldman is always good as, well, Gary Oldman). S2 on the way.
Also watched a Norwegian film on Saturday called Troll - it does what it says on the tin. Good fun but poor ending, sadly.

Great piece of work as always.
William Buckley featured as well as James Baldwin. Recently saw the West End play, Best Of Enemies, about Buckley & Gore Vidal and their TV crosstalk during the conventions of 1968. Pre cursors of where we are now.

Ford vs Ferrari
Brilliant film. Cannot believe it's taken me this long to watch it since it was released.

The Wonder
Decent film that, like others she has starred in, is enhanced by the casting of Florence Pugh. Hopefully she's earned the right to play the lead in a really good film now, as she clearly has the acting chops and screen presence.

Caught a couple of episodes of the new Willow series on Disney+.
F*ck me, it's bad. Really bad.

Re: What are you Watching Today Part 2
Mrs PJ has started watching Borgen from the beginning so taking most of that in by proxy. Despite the plaudits, the first season began like Designated Survivor but without the explosions and in Danish, such clunky writing and obvious set-ups each episode. Halfway S2 and it's got a bit better, not taxing telly though.

This is only just over 12 mins long, Avatar is over 3 and a quarter hours. You know what's gonna be more entertaining. Mark at his very very best

Borgen used to be my Sunday morning go-to telly, when I needed something to be on, but not challenge the fragile state that my head would be in.

Caught that earlier. It's always good when Kermode goes on a proper rant about a sh*t film. The Mindsweep wrote: ↑Fri Dec 16, 2022 4:51 pm This is only just over 12 mins long, Avatar is over 3 and a quarter hours. You know what's gonna be more entertaining. Mark at his very very best

The Forgotten Battle.
A Dutch film on Netflix, covering the Battle of the Scheldt in WW2. It's decent and pulls you in, but suffers from limited character development and should have explored in more details what drove some people to collaborate with the Nazis and others to resist.

His Dark Materials…
Loved the books, I think the cast on the show are great… but… there’s just something very emphatically “British TV” about it, and feels so much like “programmes for schools” that it wouldn’t seem out of place if Wordy the flying R2-D2/Bertie Basset thing from Look & Read interrupted proceedings to say “G is for Golden Monkey” and then I had to do a worksheet - it feels totally like updating the genre that had Geordie Racer, Dark Tower, The Boy From Space etc in the 80s, which presumably isn’t what they were going for.
Ah well, hopefully the final volume of The Book Of Dust won’t be too far away.

I am trying to watch a few Christmas films that I've never seen starting with
The Polar Express: it was okay, fell asleep towards the end though. CGI has come a long way since.
