The thing is, these nurses wouldn’t need to strike if they bought cheaper lattes

I know we're all au fait with fake news now - and it's not like The Sun hasn't been making stuff up for decades - but it's still a bit weird to see Boris Johnson's cuckold write an article outlining how Lynch "lost it", then embed the very video which shows that he very much did not. "This is what you are seeing even if your eyes and ears are telling you something different".

Fake news doesn’t even cover it now, it’s essentially route one trolling. The denial of reality is the point, it’s a show of power - “we can say he lost it, our readers want to think he’s lost it, we’ll even include the video”

Drives me frickin' insane how so many people are taken in by it.

I noticed it a lot at the 2019 GE just how the constant drip drip of lies about Jerumbly Corblimey got through to many Labour voter customers of mine on a real emotional level making them angry and confused.

They would often relent after I talked it through with them but the levels of deference given to the media and authority and lack of politcal engagement with the class by Labour enables this propaganda to flourish.

This is what I mean when I’m being boring about Starmer. I’d love for there to be a Labour Party that could be unapologetically itself and get a fair hearing, and it’s depressing that we haven’t got those circumstances. That’s why I just want the Tories out as a starting point, not the end in itself.

Anecdotally I can report that 95% of my taxi customers love him to death and are proud that a leader like him is talking up for them.

The other 5% are mostly a bunch of reactionary posh cnts from the outlying villages with the exception of Crawford McHaggis who I have been able to re-educate during the course of the journey from his return from the whisky society to his posh house in Kilmacolm. I failed miserably with the former editor of the Scotch Sun.

I don’t know anyone that doesn’t have an opinion on Mick Lynch that falls within thinking he’s brilliant at best, to grudging respect at worst.

One caveat to my thoughts on the direction of the Labour Party is that I wouldn’t be averse to moving leftwards under a left wing leader, but I think that like it or not, that leader would have to be a very good communicator. In a way, the sort of closed-off, unknowable and a bit spiky sense that Corbyn gave off allowed everyone to project onto him the personality they wanted to see. If we want to create a context where the propaganda doesn’t rule out real progressive politics, again it’s crap that it’s true but we’d need Labour to have a leader who is charismatic and likeable across the board

Your circle is very unrepresentative, in that case.

Definitely - but I’m not drawing wider conclusions, I’m just comparing to how that circle feels about other politicians (eg, almost everyone except cabbie relatives hate Boris Johnson, generally everyone thinks Keir Starmer is a wet fart who will get into power, opinions on Corbyn were divided) - and I think that as a good communicator, the media are going into overdrive, into territory of blatant lies about content of video they literally host - to try to shape perceptions

I think it's also the case that the video is there to lend credence to the tweet (even though it directly contradicts it). Given that a lot of people just read the tweet, and never click through to the video, they can't really lose. So a big chunk of the readers who didn't watch the video subconsciously think "the headline must be true, they've posted up something to back it up", while a proportion of those that do click through want to believe its true, so see what they want, despite the evidence of their own eyes.

Yes there's a bit of fake news but if you don’t see that Mick Lynch is an active participant in some of the reputational damage he is suffering, I don’t know what to say.

The difference is that Mick Lynch has had one day of it, not 4 years. Anyone who has to endure this bullshit at that intensity over a prolonged period of time will ultimately do things that don't help themselves.

Isn’t public opinion now for the strikes? Weird the media reporting is completely at odds with public opinion. It’s almost like they are propaganda machines for people in power.

Public opinion doesn't matter because people are thick.

I'm not aware of any 'official' polls, but Saint Martin of Lewis did a straw poll on Twitter:

Not likely if public opinion is behind the strikers.
