Re: English Accents
What about Northern Ireland. When I was at BT spoke to a guy from the six Counties and he started on about seeing " hours ". Hours of what? I asked him. This went on a while, Then he said he would spell " Hour ". ECHO- ROMEO- ROMEO-OSCAR-ROMEO-SIERRA

Re: English Accents
One is still a colony and the other broke free a long time a go but not before the English introduced concentration camps to them and the world, so they did.

William Wallace was hanged, drawn and quartered at Smithfield for being a leader in the quest for Scottish Independence.
Wee Jimmy Krankie should take note.

Re: English Accents
The use of the word Ken is not in common use in Renfrewshire/Lanarkshire. It widely overused on the East Coast, Fife etc and in Ayrshire.
I have an uncle who lives 1 mile from the Renfrewshire/Ayrshire border who uses "ken" all the time. It's weird like.

Re: English Accents
Also when I worked at BT:- Foreign Telecomms when dealing with other countries, have to offer either English or French, by International agreement. Mind you, that never stopped the Italians or South Americans from speaking neither. So it was common, in our office for someone to shout out " French speaker" etc. One day a guy was having problems and to everyone's mirth yelled out " Scots speaker". Dave from Glasgow took over.

Re: English Accents
London & the south east is proper sh*te & not an accent at all
Even though i have spoken that way for most of my life.
Having it as my 2nd accent means i get to flip out of it every now & then

Re: English Accents
I used to attend conferences where there was simultaneous translation of the speaker into English. Boy, do u get some funny peculiar accents and pronunciation then.

Re: English Accents
Brum and thick Estuary can grate, but the English-speaking accent that really grinds my gears is US east coast educated female. I’d rather listen to an angle-grinder.
