Re: Migrants crossing the channel
Starting to think that the Tories intentionally bungle handling the asylum system in order to keep it as a live 'wedge' issue that they can attack labour on. All of the steps you'd take to actually tackling the problem - staffing the home office with enough people to process applications in a timely manner and keeping tracks on arrivals, reaching agreements with other countries such as Albania on returning citizens who's applications have been turned down, working effectively with the French - they refuse to do. Instead they float purposefully crackers and hateful schemes like the Rwanda idea, despite the massive cost and likely ineffectiveness of it, because it winds up the wokerati.
They've been in charge for 12 years and it has actively gotten much worse in that time. We were receiving far higher numbers of applications in the 2000s and rejecting something like 80%, so actually getting on top of whether the applications were deemed legitimate.

It's got to be deliberate. They know that they're facing a spanking at the next election unless they can throw another issue into the electorate's calculus that counteracts their economic mismanagement. And it may just work for them.

Course it is. Been that way for a long long time. Happily aided by Rothermere and Murdoch....

Re: Migrants crossing the channel
Of course asylum applications should not be taking months/years as i suspect they do.
The Tories will blame woke lawyers/human rights for that.

They’re not doing it to wind up the wokerati, although that’s a nice side effect. They’re doing it to appeal to the racialists.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 11:51 am Starting to think that the Tories intentionally bungle handling the asylum system in order to keep it as a live 'wedge' issue that they can attack labour on. Re: Migrants crossing the channel
Well since they were abandoned in London by the Home Office and a charity that specifically helps refugees and asylum seekers ended up getting wind of the situation...that's probably why they prioritised them. Just a hunch.greyhound wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 8:18 pm 12 migrants left in London.

Have you ever lobbied your MP about why the Government doesn't do more to help the homeless, by the way? Or do you only give a monkeys about people sleeping on the street when it neatly segues in to having a go at foreigners?

It shouldn't be harder for the homeless to get housed than asylum seekers or migrants. But i believe many people on the streets do not want to be housed.

It isnt harder for homeless people to be rehomed than assylum seekers . There are homeless people on the streets who dont want the responsibility of living there lives under pressure of bills & rent & whatever demons they have going on .Friend or faux wrote: ↑Sat Nov 05, 2022 9:10 am LSN said "It shouldn't be harder for the homeless to get housed than asylum seekers or migrants. The firebombing of an immigration processing centre was motivated by extreme right-wing terrorist ideology, police have said.
Andrew Leak, 66, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, threw up to three incendiary devices at the site in Dover, Kent, last Sunday.
