Is that the best you’ve got? 3 women Pm’s and now one of Indian ancestry and Labour are still stuck at stale pale males.

Re: Tory Watch
The thing about Tories with race is that their acceptance of Sunak doesn’t say anything about race, but about Sunak’s access to power and privilege. Racism isn’t just about not liking people with dark skin. Racism can also be baked into structural inequality.

Son of African immigrants and the youngest PM for over 100 years.
Decent achievement, especially given he's only been an MP for 7yrs

I think that says more about the level of competition he faced rather than how he's outstanding in any sense.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 4:13 pm Son of African immigrants and the youngest PM for over 100 years.

Re: Tory Watch
As a socialist, any Tory is anathema to me, but we could have done a lot worse than Sunak
During the lockdown he was dishing money out so the poor could survive, and many in his party would not have been as generous as he was.
Long as he keeps that nutter Braverman out the cabinet, he'll do for the time being

Re: Tory Watch
To be fair, if Labour had changed their leader in office as much as the Tories I'm sure they would have given a go to woman or a person of colour, or even a person from the LGBTQ community

What about all the rich Tory party members who didn’t accept him and went for a completely incompetent person instead? Or do you think they thought he was just toooo rich as opposites to just rich?

Re: Tory Watch
Its amazing how the Tory membership went for a thicko, with no experience on economics, rather than Sunak, a few weeks ago.
My opinion is, that many of them are racists, and wouldnt vote for a man with brown skin

Re: Tory Watch
I'm sure everyone claiming that Truss winning was down to race, not that she promised popular tax cuts or the fact she wasn't linked to Boris' exit like Sunak was have some evidence to back that up

You mean Truss who Boris backed in the leadership race and served in his government? Or a different one?Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Mon Oct 24, 2022 5:38 pm I'm sure everyone claiming that Truss winning was down to race, not that she promised popular tax cuts or the fact she wasn't linked to Boris' exit like Sunak was have some evidence to back that up

She then won the Popular members vote.
The T*ry MPs insured this time the
Non white candidate wouldnt be
beaten by the allegedly Racist Tory Members
In a vote as per party rules.

I’m sure you’re not intending to be this dim, but you’ll note on re-reading the post of mine that you reacted to, that I didn’t say anything positive about Tory attitudes to race, I simply said that Sunak being leader does not actually say anything about their attitude to race.
That has no bearing on whether their previous collective decision to vote for Truss was informed by race or not. Personally, I believe it was based on her making fantastical unworkable promises, not race. But guess what - that’s still not actually advocating for Tory views on race.
Is there any room for nuance here?

Re: Tory Watch
It was for you.
I’ll try to make it as clear as possible, as you’re obviously struggling.
You’ve posted a video of a racist Tory voter. I’m interested in why you think that has anything to do with the fact that I said that the fact that the Tory party eventually chose Sunak as their leader does not actually say anything about Tory attitudes to race.
For the record, this video *does* show something about Tory attitudes to race - the video is an example of casual racism displayed by a Tory voter, and illustrative of the way people with racist attitudes are likely to gravitate towards the Tories out of the mainstream parties. Again, your point, please?
