Perhaps they just want to be living on a sustainable planet?

I don’t have a problem at all with what they are trying to achieve and how they are going about it but they are likely to be cut from the same cloth as the Green Party. Admirable aims on one hand but then support mass immigration on the other. They don’t seem to understand or want to accept/can’t accept that moving more and more people up the income scale to be more vociferous consumers is bad for the planet.

Leave ‘em stuck there (or on the roads, wherever) for a month.

I don't know these guys so hope I'm not speaking out of turn, but I'd be f**king amazed if increasing consumerism is part of their MO...

My thoughts were that society/the market placed an enormous value on that painting back in the 80s when it was sold (£28M?). Juxtaposed to the market putting no value on looking after the planet and the life it supports. Plus its a well known painting.

As a message, it just reinforces the belief of those who already agree, while alienating those who aren’t yet on board, while allowing their actions to be framed as destructive. Utterly stupid as a strategy to change minds.

Imagine getting upset at a couple of youngsters throwing some soup at the glass screen protecting an old painting.

But it wasn't just some old paining (I didn't realise it had glass protection). It was Van Gogh’s Sunflowers.

I mean, glue yourselves to a petrol forecourt by all means. Or, if you feel that art has to be the target, then throw soup over a Banksy or something. But not the Sunflowers for heaven's sake! The insurance on that alone is astronomical, and some of us are heavily invested in insurance underwriters.

I’m not personally upset. Just noting that as a strategy it’s a tired and eminently well trodden path that does nothing to actually convince people who aren’t convinced already. If someone posted a link to this story, it could have been from any year between 1990-today

I don’t know. But I don’t think “if you don’t know what works, then let’s stick to what already doesn’t work” is great.

Picket lines are so old fashioned. Is there nobody who can come up with something effective but new?

All this performative nonsense is cringe and never actually persuades or changes anything.

Oh, and ditch the f*cking hair dye.

Yes but people are bound to be upset with the disruption it will inevitably cause. There has to be something. Something we just haven't thought of yet.
