Being almost a year older than the Ole Boy, I can feel some sympathy for him. At this age who wants to be hanging around in fancy dress for hours on end. Standing, the fear of napping when ensconced on a comfortable throne, the desire for an urgent pee or two. No wonder he is trying to play it down and shorten the whole thing.
But I fear he has missed a trick or two. Having it on a Monday & creating an extra Bank Holiday, would have endeared the old chap to a few more subjects. Announcing the the Mother of all firework displays in the evening. Perhaps a few choral works by the Three Degrees. I know in Tudor Times or thereabouts, the City of London's fountains would flow with wine. A similar gesture wouldn't go amiss. I wonder if he reads this message board?

The Monday before the coronation is a bank holiday. The coronation is on Saturday and could be - with consent of the Privy Council - designated a bank holiday. Like eg Christmas Day we would then have the following Monday in lieu. Coronations don't have to be held on certain day. William the Conqueror was crowned at Westminster on Christmas Day.

So the Royals have form with messing up the football calendar, because remember in the olden days football used to be played on Xmas Day.

On the day of the coronation in 1953 there was a full day's county cricket - Essex were playing at Ilford. Always the possibility that the EFL will re-schedule the fixtures - might land up having the match streamed.

Will there be any trains on any day .. with strikes, cancellations etc, you are more likely to get 6 numbers on the lottery, coronation or not
