He's also right. Central banks around the world have gamed the system to keep inflation low by adjusting the basket to suit their means. IMHO inflation baskets need to be split out on what you need and what you want, and then you can get a real view of the cost of living. But that's not in the central banks interest.

If HM Treasury wanted to pursue a course of action that would make the UK an outlier from the G7, they should have had the foresight to coordinate with the BoE so the latter was able to factor that into it's plans.

This is not true. It is an outright lie. £2,500 is the typical amount an average household will pay as a result of the cap, but if you use less or more then you will pay less or more.

How can something this basic still be getting misrepresented?

They couldn't coordinate. The BofE wanted no part in crashing the economy as part of a far right project. It's also why the top civil servant at the Treasury was sacked in advance.

But they're all coming out with it on their media rounds this morning. It's clearly a pre-prepared talking point on their notes. It's a pre-prepared and deliberate lie.

And people who do not know better, such as the vulnerable or elderly, may think they can use as much heating as they like this winter and not have to worry about bills being above £2,500.

I calculate mine will come in at £2,456 after the free 400 bangers from Liz. That's quite a lot of money and saving on the heating means we will be sitting about the house wrapped up like Michelin men watching are Bargain Hunt and Homes under the Hammer.
