Why does it end any hopes of a striker coming in and where does it say "It's just like a new signing"? Or is this your own biased bullshit?
Still waiting on that chequebook coming out, Alabi being brought back into the fold suggests it's more likely we won't be making a signing now than it was yesterday imo.
Justin brought in another player and then put Harrold in as well to avoid playing Alabi even when there was space for him. This decision definitely doesn't follow "Justin's list"Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:18 pm
Edinburgh thought he wasn't good enough for a bench where we could name 5 substitutes. With two more sub spaces in League Two they've clearly decided they'd risk playing him off the bench if the game sitution calls for it. Don't agree with that, but at least there's some logic in there.
What's happening with new signings??

Cheer up mate, we haven't yet done our traditional signing of an injured player that has missed most of pre-season.

Why is it being easily pleased? Do we only judge players now based on transfer fees/wages paid?gshaw wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:51 pmPocket change nominal fees compared to what we've sold. Tell me, what do you consider to be the sort of fee that we should be paying out?

Doesn't have to be a fee, it's getting the quality and bodies in to give us a strong squad.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:58 pmWhy is it being easily pleased? Do we only judge players now based on transfer fees/wages paid?

Either we haven't got the money or the will to bring in another striker or people genuinely think he is going to be better than last season.
If its the last one i'd like to see their workings.
If it means another striker isn't coming in I really worry for us next season.
I hear Daggers are looking for new fans

Justin thought Alabi wasnt good enough for the National League, but Ross/Martin think hes good enough for League 2. Very strange decision tbh.
JE never considered him after the first month.
It seems JE did all he could not to pick him.

Re: What's happening with new signings??
So why does it matter that we paid "pocket change nominal fees" for two players then? Especially when I've not seen any evidence that one of them is anything of the sort. You're just using that as an additional whinge.gshaw wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 3:01 pmDoesn't have to be a fee, it's getting the quality and bodies in to give us a strong squad.Smendrick Feaselberg wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 2:58 pmWhy is it being easily pleased? Can't remember who now but it was one of the usual Twitter esque unofficial sources when Angol's name name was being bandied around in the rumour stage. £35-45k kinda territory.Buddy Manucci wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2019 6:12 pm Shaw, where are you getting your information on the fee for Lee Angol please?

What has happened to the money we got for Bonne and Koroma? This was considerably more than 35000. Will it be spent on players or even on ground improvements?

We overspent on the budget last year. Belts being significantly tightened to reduce losses. Board are content with 22nd this season so don’t expect any major moves now Falkingham has turned us down.

I Don't expect us to be challenging for promotion, I do expect a few seasons consolidating our L2 status before the Board look further. We are, after all, ahead of the game when looking at their ambitions so a bit of consolidation should be expected. A comfortable L2 season will do for me and I think our current squad should be good enough to achieve that.Kitch’s Magic Toes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 2:07 pm We overspent on the budget last year. Our current squad has no chance of achieving that; by anyone’s definition, it is weaker than last season.dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 3:44 pmI Don't expect us to be challenging for promotion, I do expect a few seasons consolidating our L2 status before the Board look further. Yes, a comfortable season would be pleasing. I’d imagine it’ll be an uncomfortable one, though. There’s an abject lack of quality outside of the first XI, and I have my doubts about plenty of them at League Two level as well (Brill, Ling, Widdowson and Wright in particular)dOh Nut wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 3:44 pmI Don't expect us to be challenging for promotion, I do expect a few seasons consolidating our L2 status before the Board look further. Re: What's happening with new signings??
Maybe after years in NL we assume L2 will contain players like Kane and Messi. It won’t. No doubt better overall quality but as a Championship winning team we proved better than all in the NL so not a million miles short of middling L2 quality.Disoriented wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 4:58 pmSpot on analysis.Kitch’s Magic Toes wrote: ↑Sat Jul 13, 2019 4:57 pmYes, a comfortable season would be pleasing. I share concerns over depth. lacking up front and midfield but the core of our squad is pretty good, the new recruits are decent enough and our strength is our defence more than good enough for L2.
I expect plenty of tight games with wins and defeats by the odd goal. How Ross manages will be the crucial factor, not the players. If he screws up we are in big trouble. If he continues the fight and team spirit of JE we will be OK. Ross is the key, the squad is adequate.

Re: What's happening with new signings??
Not convinced. Particularly up front. If we lose Angol or Wilkinson, or one or both of them turn out to be duffs, we lack any real goals. Reasonably happy with midfield, particularly if we can add a decent winger. Defence is pretty much spot on, although I also share concerns about Brill. I reckon midtable will be about right, which is probably acceptable given the position we find ourselves in.
